Another one is actually competing...I think you compete. I know if I'm aiming for something I train a lot harder, I am stricter with diet and generally don't coast. There is a distinct lack of competing on this forum.
I compete in the loosest sense of the word

There are an awful lot of armchair lifters on this forum. I have a lot of respect for any man that competes in strength sports; it takes balls, courage, self confidence in your own abilities and commitment.

i have many chances to compete, i'm just not confident lol, i'm super weak atm.

next comp at my gym is a last man standing comp. if i gain another 10% or so on my lifts i'd consider to compete, my bench is just bringing down my total big time ;(

Not that I've ever done powerlifting, but I can't imagine anyone will laugh at you for putting up low numbers. Competing is a great way to make like minded friends and the adrenaline rush is immense.

Unless you've got absolute beginner numbers (ie can't squat bodyweight, whatever) the only people on the whole who will laugh at you and tell you not to bother competing will be keyboard warriors who don't know anything about competing. At my first comp I saw lads that would get laughed at on places like here if they said they were gonna compete, but luckily they didn't ask anyone on the interwebs, competed anyway, had fun, stuck at it, and are now a LOT stronger than if they'd never competed and met the people they had met/learned the things they learned/whatever

Ok sure if you competed over and over again, never made any progress and had low numbers for years on end it would probably advisable to just save your money, get stronger than go back to competing, but otherwise you should just go for it and see what happens.

He never maxed Squats raw but he's done 200*3 in just wraps I think. 285.5 equipped his best.

Check out his YouTube channel. Has a lit of his lifts on...

I'm impressed if that's right cos I can't remember. Think it was 410 though.

In comp 190/112.5/250. I have training lifts but I can't really be arsed to discuss them. I readily admit that most things I have achieved were due to luck since in my whole life I've only eaten big for about 15 weeks and I don't even work very hard in the gym.

But yeah, well done Jamie Spedd (formerly David Craig???) for being strong. I'm still gonna make fun of your learning disability but I'm going to do it light heartedly and respectfully instead of filled with hatred and contempt. Hope that's OK.

to be fair summerfag seems to have improved a lot , well done to him

so long as you keep up the consistency, its surprising what you can achieve.

I'm tempted to do a single lift squat this november, we'll see how training goes. I'm more interested in the bodybuilding side of things now though

Think I read over on sugden that wearing a belt ****ing tightly for squatting (and maybe other lifts too) alters the movement pattern and makes it different to squatting without the belt. So does this cast doubt on the idea that you should only belt up for top sets?

Also, do machines trump free weights for isolation stuff?

Depending on how tight you wear it this may be true. Especially for deadlifts, less so for squats.

    Sometimes.

I'm playing American football for most of the summer.. I'll PM you on Sugden (since you'll probably be banned here) when I know my schedule and we'll set a date But I will be free from September at the latest. We can make a hype video and everything.
