In my experience, further into education, you get a lot more atheists. But the religious people there tend to be more into it than would be average.
Most of these muslim kids don't come from households with generations of degrees behind them. They're generally third, second and first generation immigrants.

By that I mean, you'll find more correlation with parents/grand parents education level than you will religion.

Lol at the western world caring less and less about money.

Err i'd say the wayside (maybe bad choice of word) is just generally not giving a ****. Its far too easy to cruise through school/uni getting solid grades while doing next to no work. And the only reason its possible is everyone does it and the govt need to make grade quotas to show the improving education.

I agree with you, success and money aren't everything. But nor is spending 5 hours a day on facebook/watching ****e tv.
tbh I think the west drink and party so much to give everyone else a chance and we're still winning.

Those whom you speak of are in the middle of nowhere, as in they don't stick to what their religion has to say about things that are prohibited ( drink , drugs ,etc) yet at the same time can't let it go off ( quit being religious ) due to various reasons mainly sociocultural + the response from the family , etc

Now from a Muslim's perspective, the response would be : In the west you have more temptation to do xyz , etc

    My two cents .....
I wasn't speaking for any muslims... I was referring to education getting rid of supernatural/superstitious beliefs.

With regards to an apparent higher proportion of education in Muslim families, let's not get carried away. You must realise we're seeing a heavily skewed population of Muslims that for the most part are already from relatively successful and educated families compared to their home countries. And either way, I highly doubt religion plays that much of a role, especially not any specific religion anyway. We tend to see a much higher proportion of highly motivated and driven individuals from other countries, especially from the East, be it Pakistan, India, China, Singapore etc etc. More culture me thinks.

Yeah, the general trend is the more educated a society becomes, the less they tend to believe in gods. However, for highly religious individuals that also become educated, their beliefs tend to become firmer. Seems somewhat counter-intuitive in a way, but does makes sense also. One can get better at justifying their beliefs, they can learn more apologetics. Also, religious people don't tend to obtain their beliefs using science/education (almost always related to the beliefs of their parents) etc, so it's unlikely that science/education will rid them of their beliefs too.

I think the more wealthy you get, the more atheistic you get lol. Wealth, materialism, god complex, lack of time to devote to anything but work and family etc

at the comment regarding most muslims i know drink blah blah blah

that's true for the Muslims you know, their are many religious Muslims....it's jsut that you don't know them lol, just like i know many 'christians'

my justification for following religion is not purely due to my parents giving me it, but due to the fact I've seen 'stuff'...... i used to have slight agnostic beliefs before then.

inb4 i'm schizophrenic, i can't scientifically prove anything yes it's anecdotal evidence but meh

As a white person in the UK with basically entirely white friends, I can honestly say I don't know a single Christian. I don't know a white person that believes in God or goes to church. I reckon a lot would just put Christian on a census form though or their parents would. They put it because most think Christian means white European and religion has little to no effect on their life that they don't even think or care about what atheist or agnostic etc even means.

Also the countries with the highest IQ are east Asian and Scandinavian, they are also basically entirely atheist countries.

As I recall, this is largely because both of these things are highly correlated with how much education you've had.

There are some religious nut jobs in the
    religion sub forum.

Someone just said she was flattered because her folk$ told her that they would never resort to honour killing her. Wtf....

Religion needs to be challenged. Hate the passive ' it doesn't affect me so just let them be' phrase

As Slumpy said, it most likely correlates with education. As far as nations go, the USA utterly bucks this trend compared to other countries. However, within the US itself, the trend still follows. East in West coasts tend to be more educated and wealthy and have less religious beliefs. Bible belt tends to be poorer and less educated. The Bible belt also has higher rates of teen pregnancies, abortions and divorce.

But yes, wealth certainly correlates with irreligiosity, and it's easy to understand why. When things are going well, there's less "need" for gods. Not sure what you mean by a 'god complex' though.

    Agreed.

Oh, and another point on religions and education. A degree does not necessarily make someone a critical thinker. I have a friend doing Biology and there are a group of Muslims on his course that try to argue against evolution. Biology students. That don't understand and believe in evolution. Da ***?!?
