Re: India is about to hang someone. There are almost as many Muslims living in India alone, than there are in the entire country of Pakistan.(Original post by anonstudent1)
There is still a massive Muslim population in India though, although they have sometimes come under attack. Still don't think making borders because of religious reasons is ever a good idea. -
Re: India is about to hang someone.
So, who will be attending the vigil outside parliament tomorrow evening?
itv news reports from today's birmingham protest... there will be much bigger ones to follow http://www.itv.com/news/central/upda...protest-march/Last edited by Rajoana; 28-03-2012 at 15:27. -
Re: India is about to hang someone.what an idiotic thing to say. Just because there isnt a poll means that there isnt support for Baba Rajoana, have you been following BBC News, Indian News Channels, Sikh Channel, Sangat TV, Asian Network a big majority of Sikhs, including Panjab government want Baba Rajoana saved, how ignorant(Original post by MirandaPanda)
Oh please
The OP is clearly someone sympathetic/biased towards the individual who is soon to be hanged, and is providing information as such. I have yet to see ANY polls which indicate that the majority of Sikhs support not hanging this individual, and can most certainly say that the entire state was not "closed down" from the protests the OP is mentioning.
As for Sikhs, they identify as Indian and heck even the country's leader is an Indian Sikh. -
Re: India is about to hang someone.but if there isnt a just one, then what?(Original post by Darkphilosopher)
Yes. Legal systems exist for a reason. -
Re: India is about to hang someone.i think the original point was that any deployment of large numbers of official military/police forces seemingly far more powerful than necessary in areas with unarmed protestors was proof of malicious intent. i was debating that point, saying that it doesn't necessarily indicate an intention to attack the protestors. the fact that they did in this case attack doesn't contradict my argument.(Original post by Rajoana)
Well in this video we can see they have now decided to start smashing innocent protesters today, the Indian state does not wait for violence to get violent themselves.

Re: India is about to hang someone.I could understand the killer of Al-Assad or Gaddafi, but I still condemn such actions. Gaddafi's killer should still face some form of punishment for what he did; as I said before, allowing killers to be free and face no punishment is not suitable grounds on which to form a civilised society.(Original post by okapobcfc08)
what about "if all peaceful means are exhaused it is rightous to pick up the sword" do you agree? There is no difference between Baba Rajoana taking care of Beant Butcher as there is if a syrian takes care of Al-Assad. Will you condemn the killer of Al-Assad or Gaddafi? -
Re: India is about to hang someone.fair point, but if there is no mechanism for that justice to happen, what do you do, i mean no tom dick or harry can go up to the Hague and present a case can they?(Original post by Aquar)

Re: India is about to hang someone.Well he has suffered 17 years in jail.(Original post by Aquar)

Besides, you heard of someone called Nelson Mandela? -
Re: India is about to hang someone. No, you are right, they can't. A stable and enforced justice system is what they need, and unfortunately, lack.(Original post by okapobcfc08)

Re: India is about to hang someone.17 years in prison is a punishment, what I was getting at was that if that is the punishment for such a crime in that country, then it should be implemented. He should not be a 'special case' simply because he was part of an assassination of somebody that had himself commited crimes.(Original post by Rajoana)
Well he has suffered 17 years in jail.

Re: India is about to hang someone. The official stand of ALL sikh groups is they will not rest until Rajoana is released. They want him to take up post of Akal Takht Jathedar (leader of all sikhs).(Original post by sachinisgod)
Court has Delayed the hanging of Rojoana after pressure from Sikh activists. According to the news anyway
this seems just a political stunt to attempt to pacify sikhs. -
Re: India is about to hang someone.Seems stupid, is it that easy to delay the hanging of someone?(Original post by sachinisgod)

Re: India is about to hang someone.Wow. Sikhs all over the world have been protesting about the hanging for days, households in Punjab have put up orange flags in support of Balwant Singh, there have been countless television programmes discussing how we can help, I'm shocked that you know nothing of all this... it takes a simple Google search to find that you're wrong.(Original post by MirandaPanda)

Re: India is about to hang someone.Absolutely. It doesn't work, however, when a country doesn't impliment its own legal system and instead the people of power carry out murders themselves.(Original post by Darkphilosopher)
Yes. Legal systems exist for a reason. -
Re: India is about to hang someone. If they hang him, sikhs are unhappy.(Original post by Rajoana)

If they dont, its a political stunt.
What do they actually want?
