What would you consider disappointing A-level grades?
Discussion for A-Level students and for those choosing their A-Level subjects.

Re: What would you consider disappointing A-level grades?I disagree. My firm asks for A*AA (amongst other things but let's focus on a levels for now) and if I didn't get at least A*A*A I'd be pretty annoyed. They're obviously not bad grades but I know I can do better than A*AA so then I'd be disappointed if I didn't.(Original post by jameslad)
You should only be disappointed with your grades if you DO NOT get the grades needed to get into university.. -
Re: What would you consider disappointing A-level grades?
I was disappointed last year with my grades of BCDD at AS because I hadnt been working at all. I had decided I could bull**** my way through and I was disappointed at myself for being an idiot. This year I will be disappointed with anything lower than AAA (after resitting all of my AS modules and getting them up to AAAA) because I have worked my arse off this year!!! It will also stop me getting into my first choice uni...

Re: What would you consider disappointing A-level grades?
I'll be very happy with BBC, thus ensuring i get into my Firm choice, Considering i was told my mum was going to die overnight, 2 days before my first exam in January, you may be right in assuming i didn't perform to my best back then. My mum survived the night, after multiple organ failure, from blood poisoning that had been effecting the whole body for at least 48 hours, but had went unnoticed during our first visit to the doctors, and was in a coma in ICU for a long time.
I was very very happy with my BBCCC from my 3 modules and 2 resits in January, under the given circumstances. Everyone was suprised that i'd even bothered to turn up to the exams and wasn't at the hospital, but I went to the exams thinking it would be what my mum would want (she was, as i said, in an induced coma at the time)
For those that are interested, she made a full recovery and has fully suprised all doctors and nurses, her recovery has been slow (obviously), but she can now get up and about, she's pretty much at a full recover, and with no long term affects (which has suprised the doctors even more)Last edited by kog; 12-05-2012 at 18:58. -
Re: What would you consider disappointing A-level grades?
Not including my Maths (which I have the module grades necessary for):
A*A*A* - Probably crap myself in surprise.
A*A*A - Very pleased (what I'm aiming for).
A*AA - Pleased (what I'm predicted).
AAA/A*AB - Satisfied.
AAB - Unsatisfied (only AA needed for my firm though).
Below AAB - Gap year and retake. -

Re: What would you consider disappointing A-level grades?Oh no it's not like I'd be genuinely upset or anything; but I would be disappointed in myself (that's not necessarily something you have to dwell on, though).(Original post by jameslad)

I do see your point though; I guess it depends what sort of 'disappointing' we're talking about

lol
I could relate.. Back in school, i was a mark of an A* for maths. I was so pissed LOL
But i got remarked and got the grade! -
Re: What would you consider disappointing A-level grades?
I was going to say 99% as a joke, but then I thought that it would be sort of disappointing. If you get, say, 70%, you would just think that you've done well and leave it at that. Whereas if you get 99%, even though it's obviously better than 70%, then your first thought might be 'why is it not 100%'. And you might feel disappointed. Oh well.

Re: What would you consider disappointing A-level grades?neggers are jealous of your bright future!(Original post by hassi94)
I'd be joyful with A*A* (already have A* in maths as of a few weeks ago)
I'll be a little disappointed (but not surprised) with A*A.
I'd be confused with AA (as my so-far module grades don't make it possible)
I'd cry with AB and lower (as I wouldn't get into any of my universities this year
Edit: Wow I get a lot of hate for wanting to get into my chosen uni this year. How dare I? -
Re: What would you consider disappointing A-level grades?
I'd feel gutted if I got below A*AA in eng/chem.bio as that's what I need for my firm offer which is essentially, my dream university.
If it weren't for my offer, I'd be extremely happy with AAAA and happy with AAAB), ****ting myself with happiness at A*AAA-A*A. Dissapointment would probably kick in around AABB-ABBB or below. -
Re: What would you consider disappointing A-level grades?
I got CCC and was happy. I'm not an A grade student, not even close. To get C's in maths and physics after the complete mess of GCSE's felt good. I used those grades to do a foundation year and found it to be an amazing decision which has allowed me to get both good marks and a strong understanding behind the topics I study.

Re: What would you consider disappointing A-level grades?
i would genuinely be disappointed if I didn't get an A* in English Literature. Mostly because I've got 100% in all of my units so far so it would be a bit gutting to fall at the last hurdle. However, I'd still be over the moon to just get into my required university grades (AAA) even though I'm targeted A*A*A*.

I agree, it's all dependent on the individual and what they know they can achieve - I know some people get muttered about by others in my sixth form because of things like the conversation you paraphrased.
Personally, for me, anything below AAB. Particularly because I wouldn't get into uni without at least this.
