Re: The Hunger GamesThats where i got them from, lol(Original post by DeadGirlsDance)
I watched the film first, then read the books. I preferred it that way because the book was slightly different from the film so you don't know what completely to expect, and i wasn't comparing the film either just reading the books. I do recommend reading all the books though! They're really good. If you go to The Works you can get all three for £7.99 too

Re: The Hunger Games
Not seen/read it myself, but I'd say book first, that way you're only spoling an hour and a half for yourself, whereas if you watch the film first, you're spoiling however long it takes to read the book.
One of the things that put me off is that the idea seems to have been lifted out of Battle Royale and dropped into the teen fandom. The UK version apparently stripped a lot of blood/violence etc. out so to appease the fangirls.
Both books and film have had decent reviews though, so
book then film

Re: The Hunger Games
Ignore the hunger games, its really nothing compared to battle royale. The author basically made Peta and Katniss the equivalent of Noriko and Nanaharo from the Japanese novel. She claims it was written based on Rome, which is not fully true. The idea of areas being blocked to force conflict was made in battle royale and copied by the hunger games, nothing to do with rome, the use of teens is battle royale, not rome, volunteers are an option in battle royale, which was copied in the hunger games. The themes of loyalty were fully copied, and Rue's death is so close to how Battle royale's book described Chigusa's death its unbelievable no-one noticed. Really, all she did was make a more elaborate background for the same concepts, themes and settings then market it to a younger audience by making love more prominent. It doesn't matter though. You only have to compare Rue's death to Chigusa's and Kotohiki/Sigumara/Mitsoku's deaths to see how pathetic the hunger games is. If you cried about Rue, you will commit suicide when you see Chigusa die. Nothing else I've seen in films is more emotional than that one scene. Find the full video with english subtitles on youtube, you will regret it for the right reasons. This is the cold reality of forcing kids to murder each other.
