Re: TSR Christian Society (X-SOC) - Mark IIIAnd here I was thinking, why isn't Tasha responding to me... She sure loves me, right?(Original post by tasha96)
That's what my folks will be like! "What- and you want us to come as well?!" Family.
Is it one of the grey concrete ones?

The church is a rather basic presbyterian kirk built in the late mid 1800s. Dunno, I just really don't like churches like that at all. Too used to the nordic simplicity and beauty of things.
I almost died last christmas during their church's christmas concert. It was horrifyingly stereotypically tacky at so many points I just wanted to leave. I was also really confused by how everyone applauded in church - it's something I've never bumped into and find it very offensive, as, well, it is taught to be very offensive here back home. And there goes my boyfriend babbling that I should start integrating to the culture...
I NEVER WILL!

I couldn't ignore you!
Ah- I've never seen a Nordic church...
Oh. I've never heard people clap in a church but I didn't know that it was offensive.

But how can I trust you if you don't even offer me some nice dairy free mudcake?!
Well, I think this pretty much sums up most of the churches built from the mid 1900s. This listing has got some churches from one certain area, but it really shows the development and different kind of ways to show the simplicity. Some churches are a bit more grand than others, but nothing compared to for example churches in England or Scotland. Those pictures only have the outside of the churches but if some of them look interesting, just google it and you'll most likely find the interior as well.
I think it is a very Finnish Lutheran thing, saying that the only worship in the Lord's house should be by praying and singing hymns, not some materialistic clapping. -
Re: TSR Christian Society (X-SOC) - Mark IIII wasn't even expressing a religious view point. Apparently, everyone just knows that I'm secretly an extreme Christian who hates muslims. To top it off, a hypocrite too. I disguise it by using "colloquial" language apparently. Given that I never use colloquial language on TSR, I can only think the author didn't know what colloquial meant, or was wrong about me... No, it can't be the latter though, as you pointed out, we're horrible people.(Original post by tasha96)
Of course you are.
On TSR expressing a religious viewpoint = being a deluded, hate-filled extremist of that chosen viewpoint.
At least we have deluded, hate-filled, extremist chocolate-caramel digestive biscuits in this horrific thread.
Want one?

I would like one but I fear they've ran out

Re: TSR Christian Society (X-SOC) - Mark IIII like oatcakes more than biscuits.(Original post by tasha96)
I don't have mudcake...
You can have a biscuit though.:
Oooh they're lovely.
And why don't you have mudcake for me?!
This is the church I had my confirmation ceremony in. Interior har har har.
It's from the posh end of Finnish Lutheran churches, but it was the late 19th century when Finland was at it's poshest thanks to the Russian empire.
Well, I find that extremely odd... But then again I am from crazy Finland.

Re: TSR Christian Society (X-SOC) - Mark IIIYep, I too think it's lovely, but it's not my favourite. I love wooden churches, they just tell the history so well. And uh, pretty much everything is built from wood here so haha.(Original post by The_Lonely_Goatherd)
That's a lovely church, Finn

I tend to avoid all the religious threads. I've yet to see one where it doesn't descend into petty name calling and just being downright insulting.
Oh no- there's plenty left.

I've found many churches in Scotland so gloomy... some of them can be very simplistic, but they're just so utterly dark and musty-feeling, whereas here the churches are made to be very bright and open. The old wooden churches are dark of course due to their materials, but they usually have almost too many windows to bring light in.
I think TLG needs a suitcase because I'm jumping in.

Re: TSR Christian Society (X-SOC) - Mark III(Original post by Feefifofum)
I like seeing churches of different kinds - it's a reminder that even though we all worship in different ways and belong to different denominations, we're all part of one huge, worldwide family

I really like my church in Glasgow, my churches back home are quite traditional (typical village churches) but they are all FREEZING, whereas my church in Glasgow is all warm...plus it has a window which lights up at night and changes colour which is fab! -
Re: TSR Christian Society (X-SOC) - Mark III
Most of our stuff is actually done in people's homes... like Tuesday we eat at <x>s house (changes each week) followed by a prayer meeting, Wednesday the students meet on campus for food and bible study, saturday we have a community meal with reflection and communion time etc.
My favourite sunday service is the once a month pizza feast though
- Free pizza, just sharing testimonies and stories etc
