Re: Number of Earth-Like planets potentially "In the Billions"
I think if we ever found another form a life, we might not even realise it. In films, aliens are basically portrayed as green humans with big heads but seeing as all of life on Earth is based on Carbon, who know's what another form of life would look like if were based on another element.

Re: Number of Earth-Like planets potentially "In the Billions"I bet they've already found us, but they're not racist in the literal term(Original post by Bellissima)
isn't it crazy to think... somewhere out there... there are other intelligent beings doing something right now and we are completely ignorant of eachother... we will never meet... and likely never know of eachothers existance..
i wonder what technologies they have, what histories... what cultures.. what they look like..
it's amazing really.
to come here and enslave us. One day, they will come. One day.

Re: Number of Earth-Like planets potentially "In the Billions"+1 Rep to you miss. Dr Who is epic

EDIT:
An update
Scientists have compiled all the pics we've got of the Milky way into one massive image/map - thought we might like this.

...really does make you see how small we are.
EDIT 2: Even better, they've developed a bit of software/an interactive thing which allows you to zoom in on certain areas

Re: Number of Earth-Like planets potentially "In the Billions"
Well until there is hard evidence we cannot decide whether there is any intelligent life in the universe, and physics being physics it will never be discovered.
Until then it can be decided there is 0 intelligent life anywhere at all.
Life, yes, in many forms that we cannot comprehend, and those that we can. Sexual reproduction and genetics is surely not the only way 'life' can exist, it's merely a way that happened to come into being here divine or not. -

Re: Number of Earth-Like planets potentially "In the Billions"As always, I duly make my appearance in these sorts of threads (i.e. see sig).
Replying to the thread: it was always bound to be, though, wasn't it? It would be a bit silly to think that little planet earth was the only habitable planet with intelligent beings - people who blindly say that clearly do not know the vastness of the cosmos.
