    Gumbet 2012
Hi there's 3 of us going to Gumbet on june 15th for a week and we were wondering where's good to drink and how much drinks cost? is it worth pre drinking or heading straight out and drinking at bars first. Anyone been or going at a similar time< what do you think of it? thanksss x

My memories are pretty vague but its a load of bars in a strip and this weird club. A bit further out there's this big club called Halikarnos or something, I wouldn't recommend it, ridiculously overpriced drinks and its just filled with weird Turkish men.

Its always worth pre-drinking, a lot cheaper than buying drinks in bars. People will try and lure you in to there bar with shots but they are so watered/juiced down so don't get excited! We got quite cheap drinks at this little kareoke place I recall and there's a bar called Bar X or something in the centre that seems to be the main one that is good. Erm if you have any more questions I shall do my best to answer!

I went 2 years ago (and i'm going again this summer around the same time as you).

We were, and are going to be again, all inclusive so we pre drank there until 10-11 most nights. Most of the quieter bars have some sort of deal on though, 2 cocktails for 7 lira etc. some places were 2 for 10, found one that was 2 for 5 but the more club style ones don't really and aren't particularly cheap. but then i doubt you'd go there completely sober and for the entire night anyway.

When we went there was a bar called leo's (which is still there i think) which was basically the first slightly busy place we came to walking towards the main strip. They did offers on jager bombs and various other bombs and we went there most nights after that, got to know the bar staff quite well (they challenged us to a football match and booked the football pitch for us)

from what i remember the main club style bars were significantly more expensive than the fringe between 1/3 and 2/3 more expensive but still very reasonable compare to other places.

Most of the mini-mart shops (basically corner shop/newsagents) sell really cheap bottles of vodka for pre-drinking. Which are around half, if not less, the price the same sized bottles would be from tesco or asda over here.

I was in gumbet for summer 09 and 11 and am returning this year a day before you

We stayed in half board for summer 09, but found that the buffet style dinner was really repetitive and so for last year we opted for bed and breakfast (Stash the bread from breakfast to eat for lunch and then go out for dinner ). Dinners are sooo cheap, you can get a starter, main and a drink for around £8-10 in most places. The only ones that charge a bit more are the higher star hotels. (The magnific hotel charges about £2 more but its SO worth it, the food and service there is amazing you should deffo eat here one night! Its along the beach and I think from the beach its called 'Soho club')

As for your actual question of drinks... So many bars do ''happy hours" where its buy one get one free on pretty much everything, i imagine your hotel will to, and if you make friends with the bar tenders they give you a few freebies. Last year in gatwick duty free there was 2 litre vodka for a good price and so i just bought that and we predrunk in our room whilst getting ready and since our hotel was right next to 'bar street' we could run back in for a few cheeky vodkas when we ran out of money. The bars on bar street do charge a bit more for drinks but they're all reasonable prices. As soon as you get there you'll realise the clubs that are best suited to you, in pretty much all of them you can see into the club because they have open walls/large windows/balconys so you can see how busy it is, they're all free anyway so you can wonder from club to club and they all have drink menus around so you can just find the best deals! In my opinion I love x bar, central, one I cant remember the name and is opposite xbar (I think shakers...) and an irish themed club called temple bar which is at the bottom of the bar street hill. Theres also a new bar this year, cant remember what its called but it looks good

Have fun! Any other questions just ask!

Heading over here soon, staying in the orange apartments (anyone stayed there?). What would you recommend to do during the day and how much spending money would you need for a week ?

i went about 6 weeks ago for 2 weeks, drinks were between 4-8 lira for a beer, about 12 lira for cocktails (which are generally very strong), kebabs around 4-7 lira. so it depends how much you drink and economise. Bottle of spirits from the shops are very cheap so pre-drinking would cost very little i needs be.

I'd recommend going to water park, can get your ticket and transfer for about 30 lira easily enough and there is a variety of watersports along the beach. Boat trips are good and again around 30 lira.

I'd recommend avoiding halicarnus (sp) and the catamaran nights out as they are very very expensive, good fun if you are not worried about the money but you'd probably have to spend 3-4 regular nights out worth of money.

I'd definitely go to bodrum for a night or maybe 2 as it has a different feel to gumbet and is arguably a better night out, just less convenient with taxis etc.

Thanks for posting this! Heading out in two weeks and we were considering going to halikarnus or catamaran but if they're that expensive then i'll definitely avoid them! Can you recommend where's good in Bodrum and in Gumbet?

Well when I went two years ago halikarnus had a couple of hours where a specific drink was free (different each night), we went on a weeknight and i don't think that offer was on during weekends, but then other than that drinks were generally 25 lira and up. However I did have a really good night (took advantage of the free drinks), the show they had on was good and the place is really nice so I won't say don't go, just that saying what to expect.

I found that most of the places in gumbet were all fairly similar, the prices are similar, music is all fairly similar etc. There aren't so many clubs so as that you can't really try them all in your first few nights and make your own mind up. "Club why not" had a good offer of something like 4-5 drinks for ~25 lira if haggle hard, the strength of them varied night to night though from weak to strong so it's a bit of a gamble.

As for bodrum I only went to two places because we were with the hotel staff who provided free transport there and back, but they were both really good. The first was called the white house i think (went there two years ago too) and was on the beach front, really busy. The other was tucked away in a side street somewhere, don't think it had a sign either. I would recommend it if i knew the name or where it was...

As for your real query of beverages... So many cafes do ''happy hours" where its buy one get one no cost on fairly much everything, i think about your resort will to, and if you socialize with the bar tenders they provide you with a few free stuff.

Think we're going to see how much money we have left towards the end of the holiday and then decide whether to, the free drinks sound good though!
Thanks for the help though, glad there's good places as I was getting worried as the last two years we've ended up in resorts with rubbish nightlife.
