Given the national coverage of the original story do you not think that at least one reputable news outlet would have picked up the story by now if the letter were genuine?
I'm guessing that reputable sources have picked up on the story and either just laughed at the obviously fake letter or at least tried to determine its authenticity and have failed.
There is no way that the Met would have sent such a letter.
