Re: I want to become a PilotYou were not in a 747 doing barrel rolls... and I'll tell you why... they are not designed to fly upside down. In history I think there's only one occasion where a commercial aircraft has performed a barrel roll, and that was the test pilot in the Boeing 707, done at quite a high altitude. They'd never attempt it with pax on board, so you're clearly talking rubbish.(Original post by bestofyou)

Re: I want to become a Pilotoh be positive mate, everything happens for a good reason.(Original post by SirMasterKey)
This thread makes me sad. I wanted to be a pilot but then my eye sight went. :'(
My height is properly an issue to so that dream went and crashed and burned.
By the way, what do you mean your height is an issue. Am a girl and am only 5.2ft. Is my height an issue.

Re: I want to become a PilotI was just quoting BA.(Original post by x-Sophie-x)
I think I'd know more about becoming a pilot than you do, no offence.
And you probably would. -

Re: I want to become a PilotHow is the interview like, is it difficult to pass the interview stage and aptitude testing.(Original post by Schleigg)
Please just read my previous post...
No you don't need experience, they'll likely do a selection course with interviews and aptitude testing etc.
And yes, flying costs a lot! -
Re: I want to become a PilotHey,(Original post by Love4All)
oh be positive mate, everything happens for a good reason.

Your height is not an issue at all
I'm also a girl, and quite short >.<
Also, for those confused with regards to eyesight, you can still be a pilot if you are short sighted or have glasses! -
Re: I want to become a Pilot(Original post by Love4All)
Hello everyone, I have a question for you all. I am just wondering what you need to become a pilot in the big industry (flying Boeing 747's for a large scale airline). Some people tell me all you need is hours and experience on smaller scale planes and then work your way up. While other people tell me that these days you need an engineering or physics degree first in order to fly the big ones.
I also need to know know how difficult is it to become a pilot and how long is the course for? Can somebody clear up these questions for me.
Thank you
I hope am posting this into the right forum.
OP thats another dream. .

Re: I want to become a PilotLol, I'm only 16, so of course not! But my mum was/is, and knows all about this sort of stuff. But I can fly a helicopter and I have my licence for it too.(Original post by Love4All)
So are you a pilot or are you planning to become one. -
Re: I want to become a PilotGOLD DIGGER. .(Original post by Love4All)
If I can't become a pilot myself then am gonna get married to someone who is a Pilot. That would make me happy.
i know it sounds stupid but.. oh well....

Re: I want to become a PilotWow, thats cool and in that way you got experience as well if you ever decide to become a pilot. Thats great. What are employment prospectives like once you become a pilot and did your mum had a lot of cash when she went for Pilot course.(Original post by x-Sophie-x)

Thank you (:
Not a clue atm. And yeah, she did, because the courses are quite expensive! Though you probably already know that! -
Re: I want to become a PilotSo long as you're not colourblind and can pass all the medical requirements for driving (you can wear glasses!), then you can fly gliders, IIRC (it's about 5 years since my medical, so I'm a little sketchy on the details). I'm not entirely sure about the requirements for airline pilots, but I know they also allow glasses to be worn.(Original post by SirMasterKey)

I'm 4'11, and I can fit into the vast majority of gliders, once I've added a lead cushion for weight. I also went through a brief phase of wanting to be an airline pilot a few years ago, so I asked an airline pilot if he thought my height would be an issue. One way and another, I ended up sat in the cockpit, and found that the seats were so adjustable that they could be made to fit people smaller than me

Re: I want to become a Pilot
i am by no means an expert but from what ive heard one of the requirements these days is a degree yes [not sure on specifics] the easiest way to get into the pilot industry [in the field youre interested in anyway] is to go through the air force or get a sponsorship somehow from the airline failing that its bloody impossible unless you have truck loads of money to spend learning. my friend is learning how to fly tiny little cessnas at the moment and it costs him a bomb, imagine how much learning to fly a jumbo or the like would cost.
either way good luck! -
Re: I want to become a PilotMy brother is currently in the process of pilot training (he is due to fly back from New Zealand in about a week, haven't seen him for 8 months!) - he is starting the type-ratings in about 2/3 months and will be qualified as a commericial pilot towards the end of this year/beginning of next.(Original post by Love4All)

To clarify: you need A-levels and £80,000 - my brother is doing it with CTC Aviation.

Hope this helps!

Re: I want to become a PilotI gave you the chance to edit this out. However, you didn't, so I'll ask you whether you meant 'on a flight sim programme' or are you just telling the worst lies possible to try and make yourself sound clever?(Original post by bestofyou)
However, I recently flew as a passenger on a 747 that was doing barrel rolls through a redwood forest, so don't tell me that the likes of BA have the ability to train such pilots without external training bodies...
Either way, you did not do what you claim to have done. Telling lies is naughty. -
Re: I want to become a PilotDon't be ridiculous. Such a maneuver is practically impossible on flight sim. No, this was a real maneuver performed in a real plane, by a real pilot in real life. You cannot prove this did not happen, so if you must agrue this point further I'd like to see a little more evidence. Jealousy gets you no-where...(Original post by ProStacker)

Re: I want to become a Pilot
I don't need to prove it happened. Barrel rolls in wide bodied jets not designed for it pretty much defy the laws of physics and certainly go outside the design of the airframe. If you knew anything about such things you would know of the legend of the Dash-80 barrel roll and how utterly laughable your claim is. Please - save your tales for those who might believe you. Your credibility on anything aviation will only sink lower if you persist. 'Through a redwood forest' only makes it better BTW!
