How to get Bar work?
I'm on a gap year from this summer and am looking at ways that I can fund my potential travels for 2013! Anyone that does barwork got any advice on how I can get work, just go into bars, or apply online? I'm 18 but have about 6 months catering/waitressing experience, part-time as I'm in college. Any certifcations you need to show you can serve alcohol or anything? (You need this in Aus!) What is the work like also? Can imagine it being pretty anti-social hours, but are there any perks like good workmates or interacting with customers that you like? What's the average wage?

Re: How to get Bar work?
1. Apply online but also go into all ya local pubs to see if there taking on.
2. Don't need any certifcates.
3. Depends how busy the pub/bar is.
4. Rapport building with customers is great, prob be better in a pub with a fair few regulars for that. Most the bar staff have a clique in work cos they all work simlar hours, its a good way of making new friends.
5. Most jobs prob min wage. So if ya work 40 hrs : 40x6.08=£243.20 before tax + tips!
The hours arn't consistent tho, so you will find ya self not working sometimes in quiet periods. -
