    Transferring to a better Uni
Hey everyone, this is my first post and it's a long one.

I will first explain my situation and what I intend to do:
I have been studying Alevels abroad from the UK and I returned last year. Though my predicted grades were ABB/AAB (English Literature, Geography and Physics), I was very lazy and did hardly any work except for the 3 or so months coming up to the exam and instead I got CBC (which adds up to 260 UCAS points I think), so I did not get into the University of Leeds, which is what I originally applied to. I originally applied for Geography related courses, all at the University of Leeds, and I got 5 conditional offers, but after studying Geography 8 hours a day (outside of lesson time) I got a little sick of it, despite it being my favourite subject. I decided I would like to do engineering, but since I didn’t do Alevel maths and Physics was only a C, I had very few choices. Because it was so late in the year I hurriedly decided to study at an FE/HE college that did an engineering degree course, with Alevel requirements well below what I achieved. Though I worked hard, found I enjoyed the subject and have gotten good grades so far (overall percentages for the results of the modules I have taken so far range from low 80s to a couple of marks off 100%) a number of problems arose at the college. These include but are not limited to the validation of the IET accreditation for the course running out the year I joined (and the college doesn’t seem to be bothered about renewing it), and there is a considerable amount of infighting between members of staff and a lot of unprofessional behaviour in how they go about it. Numerous complaints have been made by other students on the course and members of staff but they have had no effect.
Because of these problems I have decided to look for another nearby institution to study the same/similar course. At the moment my top choices are the University of Huddersfield and the University of Bradford. Both are relatively close-by and the courses are IET accredited.
Normally the requirements at these universities are as follows:
    University of Huddersfield:
(One or more of the following criteria)
// In the region of 280 UCAS points including Maths and a suitable science/technology subject at A'Level.
// A relevant subject for BTEC plus a Grade C or above in Maths GCSE, or an equivalent relevant qualification.
// Successful completion of Engineering Foundation Year.
// Other suitable skills or experience gained in a relevant industry will be considered.
    University of Bradford:
240 UCAS points with A-level Maths minimum grade C (or possibly AS Maths + a science A level minimum grade C). GCSE English minimum grade C

My question is this: does is it seem likely that any of these universities would consider me, based on my Alevels combined with my marks on the first year of the course I am already studying at? And does this kind of thing happen often, where someone gets good marks on the course and then transfers to a better university. I am happy with re-doing the first year and if it helps I got 1 A*(in English literature), 6 As (including English and the 3 sciences), 2 Bs (including maths) and 1 C for my GCSEs.
    Thanks for reading.

Might be worth it... There's a transfer q&a thread started by paddy power. If they've let the accreditation slip it's sufficient reason imo. Get the best results you can this year so you'll look serious to the unis you're asking to take you in.

It depends on the uni. Some will still want you to have the correct A Level grades - and you don't have any extenuating circumstances for that. Others will be more understanding. You'll probably have more luck applying for first year entry, though.

Email the unis and ask them.

Ok thank you for the replies, both of you. I looked at the sticky as well, it was very helpful.

If anyone else has anything to add they are welcome. Thanks.
