Student finance help!!!
Right, i applied to student finance and everything with my prefered uni choice, and all the details went in fine etc, I even got my offer of loans etc which was all good, then I didnt get in to the uni ive wrote down so, changed it to one i have an offer from which was easy to do! BUT, a few days ago i received a massive breakdown of all my finances for the uni i first put down! Which is the one im not going to? To add to this it was different from the first breakdown i got and says I should receive an extrememly low amount of loan when the course is like £9,000! Im not going to this university so it kinda doesnt matter? Should i wait to see if they send me new stuff for the uni i have changed it too or give student finance a ring? Helppppppppppp X

Re: Student finance help!!!Ok - firstly, you will get two different loans. One is a tuition fee loan, this will be for £9000 (or whatever the fees are at your university, you will have written this on your form) and it will be paid directly to the university each year. You never see this money. Then you also get a maintenance loan and possibly a maintenance grant. This can be anywhere in the region of £3000 to £6500 (ish) depending on your personal financial situation, where you plan to study and where you plan to live. This money will be paid into your bank account on a termly basis.(Original post by imagineit)

In terms of the information about your actual university, I would wait a week or two and see if SFE send you further info about your new university. If they don't then just contact them and explain that you've recieved a letter about funding arrangements for your old university, but you're no longer going there now. However, if the university location and your situation is the same as the first one, the amounts won't have changed. The only times the amounts will be different is if you were living at home and you're now not, or you were going to London and you're now not (or vice versa).Last edited by oxymoronic; 02-04-2012 at 22:57. -
Re: Student finance help!!!
Yeah, well it was glasgow i was hoping to get in and before i got my rejection student finance sent me a letter saying id get the full £9,000 course fee payed for (each year), and i had additional maintenance loans and grants i would be receiving, then they sent me a second letter (for glasgow), with more detailed info on the payements etc but they had said on this one tht i would receive only around £1800 for the course fee? A few days after this i received my rejection so Ive changed my details on student finance to where im going now, but i dont understand why they changed it? Just gna see if they send me info on my new uni im going to and if not ill give them a ring! Thanks!

Re: Student finance help!!!Hmm well the current tuition fee in Scotland for people from England, Wales and Northern Ireland is around £1800 which is where I imagine they have got this figure from but from 2012 entry the fees are going up to around £9000 a year. It may well be that you were somehow mistakenly sent a letter that was intended for continuing students where the tuition fee would be £1800. When you speak to them get them to confirm that they have you down as a new student for 2012 rather than a continuing student.(Original post by imagineit)
