    Medicine success after a while
Hey guys, basically I applied for medicine last year after achieving AS grades of BBCC in year 12, naturally I was gutted, and down, but after encouragement from parents and teachers alike, I decided to still apply for medicine.

So in year 13 I took the plunge and applied to medicine, having gotten predicted AAA, (I really underperformed at AS and my teachers seemed to believe in me) I dropped physics (C grade) at AS and took Biology (B), Chemistry (C) and Mathematics (B) to A2.

Having worked hard to get 667.5 in my ukcat I then applied for Kings (EMDP 6 year course), Peninsula, Southampton, and Brighton/sussex. I (to my surprise) had an interview for Peninsula and a rejection from brighton on the same day! After this came the January exams, where I didn't do as well as I'd hoped, bringing my grades up to BBB. I'd also screwed up my biology coursework rather badly, and wasn't able to improve it further.

With this in mind I was so worried about the summer exams, ever really being one to get good grades, and naturally I thought I'd miss my offer for peninsula.. So I worked hard, harder then ever before, and really gunned it for my summer exams. Along the way I (Surprised again!) picked up an offer from Southampton, which really motivated me. In the end, August 2011, I achieved A*AB, an A* in biology, an A in maths and B in chemistry. I missed my grades. I was rejected from my firm (peninsula) Although i was upset about this, I decided to look at the brightside...my grades!

I took up my insurance to do biochem at warwick university, and am now currently in first year. I also decided to reapply, and now I hold an unconditional offer after retaking one chemistry exam. Its beeen a long slog, but hard work and determination have made it all worth it.

I hope this encourages some people who dont think you can get into medicine without a background of amazing grades and academic excellence. I've also shown you CAN get in even when you reapply. even from the first year of another degree.

Roll on Peninsula in september 2012!

    Thanks for reading!

Congrats man. Its definitely worth it.

All of what you have been through over the past few years to get into medicine, will soon fade away once you start.

(P.S - Ill probably see you in freshers)

Well done blud. I'm also of the 'long medicine application success story' mould and also promote commitment and reapplication.

    Absolutely brilliant mate, well done!

You've made me feel a lot better for my application because my GCSE's aren't as strong as other applicants out there! But I'm going to absolutely hammer A levels as much as I can! Hopefully you'll be seeing me post something like this in a years time!

Thanks for the confidence boost, I owe you some rep!
