Why did you took the friction to be negative?

The particle is at the point of sliding down the plane, so the friction should act upwards because friction always opposes motion.

Do you get it?

No problem, but why don't you use the solution bank?

The books often have wrong answer at the back, so from the solution bank you can ensure if the book's answer is correct or wrong.

Insert the cd, it will have a solution bank which contains solution to all the questions in the book.
