Dad living/earning abroad. Maintenance grant help !
Hi all.

Just need a bit of help here.
My Mum is in the UK, and is living off benefits.
My Dad lives and works abroad ( outside of the EU ). He has his own self employed business. His income is less than £25,000 converted.
I am looking to apply for income assessed maintenance grant. What proof would my Dad need to give for his income ?
1. Does he need to provide proof of self-employment ? And if so, how ?
2. How does he provide proof for his income, since the country he is living/working in is a developing country ( and hence, no real system like in the UK ). Would tax returns for the year be enough, or would he need something else too ?
Many thanks to everyone who can help me with the above questions. I really do appreciate it ... and I mean that.

Re: Dad living/earning abroad. Maintenance grant help !If he's living abroad he needs to provide the best proof he can, i.e. a tax return from that country. Other countries have different financial calendars, so whichever evidence he provides, part of the tax year in question needs to fall within the period between the period April 2010 to April 2011. If the evidence is in a foreign language he'll need to provide a certified translation (get a qualified translator to do it and have it stamped).(Original post by arsi123)
