I think this is avery good topic to have. Research on charities and other things is quite easy, so as long as decent questions come up this shoud hopefully be fine

I've just done some research on the physical geography of Nepal, a bit on the energy mix and a lot of research on charity work there. I think a question on charities and possibly specific to Practical Action will definitely come up

Research another fragile environment, I have done the Serengeti which I learnt for ecosystems in the other paper. Also look into other types of renewable energy which could be used.

We didn't get the zigzag stuff in the end -.- which would have been nice! I've been focussing on my other exams so left this one to the last minute but I think it should be more straightforward than the Poole one? Because that was like all about birds and humans where as this one seems pretty firmly on the development of Nepal all around like quality of life and sustainability.

I was thinking to revise I'll probably find out about NGOs and charities working in the area? Also was going to look at the power options they have and maybe demographics?? Oh and my teachers always go on about how they might ask you to evaluate the websites so I'll give them some heavy looking over on monday night probably!!

Can somebody explain what this ZigZag booklet is?

This is the first time I'm doing it and have two other exams I need to revise for as well... how much revision do I actually need to do for this? What would people suggest revising - I've heard fieldwork stuff?

    Hey, few questions about this:
    - Do we need to take our own, unmarked one into the exam or do they give us one? Becuase I'm pretty sure I've lost mine! I've just been looking at it on the internet
    - Do we need to talk about any of our own fieldwork this year? I know sometimes you do but at the bottom of this booklet it says it makes no recommendations regarding fieldwork
    - What's this zig zag booklet?

hey, the zigzag booklet is a resource pack that some company called zigzag sells - it basically has mock papers and research ideas focused on nepal. i think earlier in the message someone said they were emailing round copies if you want it

in terms of how much revision you need i'm clueless as i did the paper in jan, did absolutely loooaddss, but didnt get the grade! but you don't need to do any fieldwork prep as there are no clues gearing towards it (like in jan the pre-release said something along the lines of 'students are advised to consider how they would carry out a traffic survey to see if poole's bridge is needed or not' and obv it came up in the exam!) also, it says as the very end of this one there is no suggestions for planning or preparing primary evidence.

Hey, thank you! How are you planning on revising for this? Are you just going to read through the booklet, study the figures and look at the links at the end of the booklet?

That sounds like the only way to me! Have you looked at the practical Action website? I am finding it hard to pick out the essential bits, there is so much information on there. Also it could be good to look at some possible questions mabye?

Have to say, this is a truly horrible exam to prepare for, especially considering due to having to focus on others I've only got a few days.

My teacher simply got us to work through the now seemingly holy grail of the zig-zag book, which I have done. Apart from becoming familar with the AIB, trying to learn the answers to the research suggestions in the zigzag, and doing some further reading, I honestly can't think of anything else for this exam. I guess I will also have to practice ways of presenting data (graphs) and the statistics, but I can't help but wonder if the stats is a waste of time, considering the limited nature of a data in the booklet.

Anyone else got better ideas? This exam seems very open ended and too an extent, is decided by the synoptic ideas you get on the day as you read the questions in the exam room. Have gotten so used to just learning information for GEOG3 this sort of independent thought has really made revision difficult.

    Cheers.
