Have to say, this is a truly horrible exam to prepare for, especially considering due to having to focus on others I've only got a few days.

My teacher simply got us to work through the now seemingly holy grail of the zig-zag book, which I have done. Apart from becoming familar with the AIB, trying to learn the answers to the research suggestions in the zigzag, and doing some further reading, I honestly can't think of anything else for this exam. I guess I will also have to practice ways of presenting data (graphs) and the statistics, but I can't help but wonder if the stats is a waste of time, considering the limited nature of a data in the booklet.

Anyone else got better ideas? This exam seems very open ended and too an extent, is decided by the synoptic ideas you get on the day as you read the questions in the exam room. Have gotten so used to just learning information for GEOG3 this sort of independent thought has really made revision difficult.

    Cheers.

I agree! This pre-release is so vague and not focused on much in particular like poole was :/

Does the Zig Zag booklet suggest any research other than the websites provided on the AIB?

Very worried about this exam. I'm retaking and haven't done half of the work I did for January so I can't see this being very successful. Zigzag booklet is helpful but seeing as I did everything in it for January and still didn't do that well clearly I need to really broaden my revision.

I've been mainly looking at so far:
    Renewable energy options for Nepal
Ways of presenting the statistical data (climate graph for Fig 2 I think it is, then Bar/Pie for 3 and 4?)
The environment of the Himalayas and why its a fragile environment.
Practical Action website and their schemes (biogas, renewable energy villages etc)
    Nepal facts and figures
Tourism in Nepal and its advantages/disadvantages
Nepal's development and future prospects - link to renewable energy, tourism industry etc.
Other similar countries/areas with similar issues and their ways of solving it.

Anything else anyone else can think of adding to that? I'm sure I've probably forgotten something.

That sounds like a pretty good and varied list of topics covered - I can' think of much else you could do - just learn it all! Maybe stats tests? What have you done in terms of other countries?

Inca Trail in Peru is an example of a place where tourism issues have been addressed, its pretty much what Nepal is aiming to become in terms of sustainable tourism etc. Very similar in issues etc.

If you go here: http://zigzag.at/4546 , and Ctrl + F and find '4546' on the page, all of the links that have 4546 before them are the links from the zigzag guide. Hope they are helpful.

    Ah thanks that's useful.

There was a guy earlier on in this thread that was PMing people the link to part of the booklet, so if he's not doing this anymore PM me and I'll pass anyone the link.

highly recommend going on this and clicking preview on the booklet at the top right hand side under the green 'ordering details box' - it's free...although part of it is cut off but all the info is still really useful (especially if you're like me and had to self teach yourself this topic)

Would it be advisable to go over AS and A2 content for the exam, are they likely to ask a specific question on content from one of the compulsory units? There are things mentioned about rivers and flooding so I'm kinda freaking out as to whether I need to go over that content as well as glaciers, although I know this is not a compulsory topic so they are unlikely to ask anything about that.

I really, really need these 2 answering please: do we have to take our own unmarked copy of the AIB in or are we provided with one? And are we expected to have done fieldwork?

    Please someone answer!

it depends if your school gave you a photocopy of the pre-release or if they gave you the original - if so you have to take your own, unmarked copy in..

Depends what your school/college told you. I think most places would give you it in the exam and give you a photocopy to use before the exam, but some might have given you the original before the exam and want you to bring it in.

If it's in black and white, it's definitely a copy so you won't need to bring it to the exam. If it's in colour and stapled down the middle like a proper booklet, it may well be the original which your school is expecting you to take to the exam, unmarked.

Is it stapled down the middle like a proper exam one? It could be just a colour photocopy or print off? If you do think it's the real one then go into school/college tomorrow or ring or email to check or something.

It does say 'this booklet must be kept unmarked' on the front of it haha.
