Re: The Manchester United Thread IXAny stats on when this is going to get paid off? I heard 13/14 somewhere but it was probably wrong.(Original post by Kevmeister)
£250k has gone out of the club every day servicing the debt millstone that is stopping our beloved club from completely blowing every single *****ng club out of the water. [over the last 9 months] -
Re: The Manchester United Thread IXIf they float a % then it should be paid off then, but that's not anytime soon. Current schedule is 2017, but even then the debt won't in all likelihood be paid off in full - so they'd refinance what is left of the bonds.(Original post by Idle)

Re: The Manchester United Thread IXReally wouldn't surprise me. I remember an interview a while back, possibly from David James but i'm not sure, where he said one of the most misunderstood things about football is just how structured the game actually is. Almost everything we see has been worked out before the match, think he compared it to a chess match.(Original post by Slick Fosbury)
That Rooney article is really American in a funny way.
I kind of follow NFL and NBA, not religiously but watch the odd game. The striking difference is seemingly their sports are more play orientated. Plays being sequences of passes, runs and so on the entire team religiously knows. With the very defined roles of quarter back and point guard orchestrating the attacks. In terms of the TV coverage, the analysis is far more broken down and lacks fluidity. In contrast to how our pundits often talk about the importance of instinct.
There does seem to be stream of American sporting terms and ideas creeping into football. Be it the 'quarterback role' players like Huddlestone or Alonso supposedly play or the weird statistical transfer policies at Liverpool.
What is interesting though is how much of it seems to be ignored. I know for a fact Mancini spends hours a week drilling our squad on defensive shape and how it should adapt to where the ball is and so on. Then we get Rooney talking about how he goes through the equivalent of plays in his head. Maybe football is less fluid and instinctive than we think.
Also the idea that Rooney can do everything is a bit silly. The flair and dribbling ability he burst on to the scene is all but extinct.
It would make sense tbh, results are the be all and end all in modern football. Combined with the amount of money flying around and do well and the rewards are vast, do badly and your treatment can be brutal. It would be no surprise that people are doing every little single thing they can do get the best result, micromanaging as many aspects of the game as is humanely possible.
As a general point regarding your post the obsession with stats is an American thing we've picked up. Because of the access to them that the internet has provided this site is terrible for it, you can't get through a discussion about a player without shooting accuracy, pass completion, tackle success rate and whatever else coming up. -

Re: The Manchester United Thread IX
Manchester Senior Cup Final
Manchester City vs Manchester United
7pm KO Tonight @ Emptyhead Stadium
Who's watching tonight? Game will be live on MUTV from 6:30pm and anyone who wants to attend can get tickets for £1 on the night outside the ground. I can't make it tonight but it'd be a fun one to go to. Apparantly both sets of fans will be sitting on the Bell End with no segregation, which makes me a little bit gutted to be missing it. An unsegregated derby has the potential to be all fun and games. -

If I can find a stream I'll probably give it a watch. Who's turning out for you? -
Re: The Manchester United Thread IXThis is what I think as well, he should take up the chance to manage in the Champions League. Plus the Norwegian season's something like 10 games in? He should finish the season there.(Original post by DaveSmith99)
I think it would be better for him to try and retain his title and have a go in the champions league with Molde. I definitely want to see him in the premier league soon though. -
Re: The Manchester United Thread IXI don't blame him at all. He's had a terrific and consistent season and IMO, offers alot more from a technical standpoint than Parker and Barry and don't blame him for his stance. No point warming the bench when he can rest up.
I had a deep feeling that SAF might get a tad sentimental towards Owen and his injuries and give him another year to help the younger strikers but he has shown his ruthlessness in not giving him another deal. Had some good moments for us our Michael - I think he'll up at a mid-table club.
For the number 7 shirt, should be Valencia. He wasn't given the shirt number when he came in '09 to brush off any sort of comparison towards Ronaldo (there isn't one really but the press would have anyway) and Owen coming in made it sense for him to take it. I think Valencia should get it.
