I just hope this is all a smoke screen for a couple of good signings.(Original post by Kevmeister)
Unproven, yes, unknown to our scouts? Highly unlikely. The RVP offer was just to test the water, hardly a bid to placate fans given that it didn't achieve that and actually had the fanbase split.

Re: The Manchester United Thread IXFunny that a few United fans thought it was serious offer and you were going to increase it to around £20m(Original post by Kevmeister)

You don't even need RVP, as I reckon Kagawa will be one of the players of the season. -
Re: The Manchester United Thread IX
I am pissed of at the ignorance of the management at United to our midfield problems, we only look to flirt with players price tags but never meet them, the only reason we got such a class player like kagawa was because of his contract status and his desire to play at united. Last season was a terrible season for us, we got completely hammered by city at home and didn't make it past the easiest group in the champions league, moments which no one would've predicted even one happening last season. Let alone losing to bilbao, and making them look like barcelona in the process.
And I know we will be stronger next season as we have vidic back, and kagawa will help the midfield out, but realistically city are going to be stronger next season with more experience and a higher team spirit, and chelsea have brought some class players which make our improvements for next season just not look good enough. Plus scholes and giggs are not exactly going to be better this season than last, and will probably get worse. I'm not saying we won't win the league and I'm sure we will be at least close to the top but I'm least confident of this squad winning the league this year than I have been in about 5 years due to the quality in the middle of the park against the top 4. If we want to be serious about winning both the league and the cl then we need to sign a new cm. -
That, or Ando and Tom to come good. I trust Fergie, he's seldom disappointed... as much as I'd like another mid, I feel that there's nobody better at convincing the Glazers to spend if it's needed. If he really can't put forward a great argument, I'd imagine that's because he genuinely doesn't feel like he needs to.
Yes, Chelsea have spent and yes, City are a phenomenal team at the moment but you must remember how many broken players we has and yet still managed second on GD. Speaks wonders for a team with 'no strong midfielders', an 'over reliance on Rooney' and a weak left back.
Yes, I think next year will be hard but come on... this is United. Since when did hard really worry us? -
I agree we really need a DM last season there was too much reliance on rooney what happens when he stops performing ?(Original post by rohitbd)

I really do hope that we buy a DM,that CL performance was unbelievable no offence to bilbao but we shouldn't be losing against such a team

In fairness Rooney wasn't performing that well for a lot of last season he was just scoring lots of goals so it hid the bad games he had. I think we are a lot more reliant on Valencia because he's our main outlet and when he's not in the team we score a lot less goals and so does Rooney. However in signing Kagawa I think that problem is solved because he'll set up a lot of goals and improve a lot our build up play. We only need a cm to not get overrun by teams with a solid midfield like City and in the champions league. If Cleverley and Ando stay fit we could challenge for the league but maybe not in Europe so it wouldn't be a disaster. Think we definitely need a cm though.(Original post by diggy)

Re: The Manchester United Thread IXlol thats arguably the main point of football, it's true that kagawa is a good signing and I can't wait to see him play(Original post by Saf94)
he was just scoring lots of goals
But we really need a DM atleast to do well in the CL, for all of City's spending they didn't do too well after all they only won on goal difference -
Re: The Manchester United Thread IX
@DuckerTheTimes: In video #MUFC COO M. Bolingbroke says they're anticipating a £40m "net expenditure" this summer but that could mean ... CONTD
@DuckerTheTimes: another £40m could still be spent as £15m downpayments on Kagawa and Powell are on course to be offset through sales, loan fees&compensation -
Re: The Manchester United Thread IXI think too much has been made of Chelsea's spending. Di Matteo basically won the CL thanks to some superb defensive work from the team but there is nothing to show that he can utilize the talents of Marin, Hazard, Mata and Torres to their full potential in an attacking formation and that the Chelsea strike force will be the same without Drogba. Plus some of our signings show promise, Kagawa's signing is amazing for the attacking options and we haven't lost any key players from last year, if anything a fully fit Vidic, an improved Evans and a more confident De Gea will help shore up the defensive issues from last season. To challenge for the league, we really need someone at left back and for Europe, we need a true CM(a more mobile Carrick ideally).(Original post by rohitbd)

Re: The Manchester United Thread IXApparently its less than our last bid, even though Lucas now gets 10% extra of the fee.(Original post by rickjames)
reports on sky24 comming out that Inter have a bid accepted for Lucas -

Re: The Manchester United Thread IX
Anders Lindegaard has signed a new four-year deal, extending his stay until the end of the 2015-16 season.

Good move. Think he's a good goalkeeper. -
Leave permanently or on loan? I got the impression they wanted to loan him out to get some first team football. Did mourinho say he could leave permanently? If so then we have to go for him imo.(Original post by DaveSmith99)
From Mourinho's comments today it seems like Sahin will be allowed to leave Madrid if he wants. SAF has said that there aren't many United quality midfielders available, well theres one here

If so then we have to go for him imo.Sounds to me like he's up for sale.Mourinho has now claimed that should he want, the 23-year-old can leave the Spanish giants this month.
"The point is, he's a young boy, he wants to play every match," said the Portuguese. "He wants to play to be happy, and in Real Madrid with Xabi Alonso, with [Sami] Khedira, with Lassana [Diarra], [Esteban] Granero, [Mesut] Ozil, the situation is not easy.
"Real Madrid is very difficult. It is not an easy club, because we demand a lot. We have great players, and when you don't start well, it is difficult to do it.
"If he stays, he's not a problem for me, he's one more solution. We leave [the situation] in his hands. Be happy.
"Decide what you want to decide, to be happy. If you decide to leave we are going to help you to leave. If you decide to stay, we are going to support you and try to succeed this season."
