Re: The Manchester United Thread IX
Apparently we're also looking at signing the 'new' Cristiano Ronaldo:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/foo...uez-Porto.html
Anybody seen him play? Could be an alternative to Hazard, but having never seen him play I couldn't say how he compares. We definitely need a DM though, all the talk at the moment seems to be off offensive players, and whilst I think we do need a true AM, which would allow us to play Rooney as a proper striker, a good DM would help us with controlling midfield in big games. -
Re: The Manchester United Thread IXNo chance, £25mil for an unproven player whose only made 11 starts in the portugese league due to knee problems.(Original post by Solid_Snake7)

I reckon we'l go for Kagawa and M'Villa as the main targets. -

Re: The Manchester United Thread IXRonaldo only scored like two or three goals during something like theirty appearances of Sporting, look at him now. I think any potential player who has the possibilty to become something special should be signed. Of course I am not saying 'sign this Rodriguez fella' because I have never seen him play.(Original post by rickjames)

Re: The Manchester United Thread IXYou think Anderson is worth ~20m? I wouldn't value him anything above 10m tbh.(Original post by pinda.college)
I would like to get rid of Anderson if we can make some profit off him, I would much prefer a technically gifted DM so that we can have more control in midifield next season. -

Re: The Manchester United Thread IXI don't think he is worth half of what we paid for him either however, you never know. We brought him for £20 mill so perhaps (hopefully) someone will buy him for that or more. Though I do doubt we'll make anything off him.(Original post by WhatIsAUsername?)

I always hate it when the phrase "the 'new' XXXX YYYY" is used. As a player I'd get quite cheesed off as well, firstly for the expectations placed on me and secondly I want to be AAAA BBBB (myself) not someone else.
He sounds like the true heir to Roy Keane's throne(Original post by DaveSmith99)

Re: The Manchester United Thread IXWho Fergie clearly regrets buying for such a large amount. His last interview regarding anderson showed some surprise at the injury prone nature of the player and he can only 'hope' Anderson puts injuries behind him (can't remember the exact wording but that was the jist). Source: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/foo...-Anderson.html(Original post by WhatIsAUsername?)
That's a reference to Anderson.
I think this, if anything, will make Ferguson more cautious of buying players with knee problems such as Rodriguez, regardless of age.
Ronaldo wasn't £25mil, it was before the Glazers, and he was scouted for a while before that and I think he had more appearances to go by as well (..and he was younger, not that it matters much when this Rodriguez guy is 20 but still).(Original post by pinda.college)

Re: The Manchester United Thread IXThe only injury Ando had at Porto was a broken leg. In the same season he made 15 appearances, won a league medal and was playing CL football at the age of 18. He didnt have an injury record per se, you cant at the age of 18. In the same interview, he states how Ando is still young and has time to recover. He can still play a squad role and the quality of depth in the midfield has been lacking for a long time, so theres no need to offload him, just rotate to reduce chances of injury.(Original post by rickjames)

If anything, Cleverley has a worse injury record and fans have been salivating over him all season
He wasnt that cautious when buying Hargreaves -
Re: The Manchester United Thread IXI was mentioning Ando's injuries since being at Man Utd, rather than his time at Porto. I don't think Cleverley has had a worse injury record at all, considering he was fit for most of last season at Wigan. Anderson has averaged 14 appearances a season in his last 3 seasons with us, that's quite worrying tbh. Yeah, Fergie will highlight his youth because its the only factor keeping him part of the club.(Original post by AndersonsBentFoot)

Rodriguez is hardly comparable to Anderson of Porto anyway, given the former's acheivements, who was then was bought for less than £25mil. -
Re: The Manchester United Thread IXThats in the league. Forget about all the other competitions United are involved in and the fact squad rotation is such a huge part to SAFs success every season.(Original post by rickjames)

Missed the derby and all the crap afterwards.
Here's hoping Newcastle do us a favour, they at least have something to play for besides pride.

Nice read on Rooney if anyone has 5 minutes spare. Probably a bit over the top at times but it's good to see him getting credit for what has been an outstanding, and often underappreciated, season.
The consensus with these Kagawa rumours has been that we'll be able to push Rooney forward into his supposedly better position...I can't help but think that could be a waste. Having someone who can score as much as Rooney while playing as deep as he can is rare and we should be wary of wasting that. We should also be wary of wasting Welbeck's potential. Maybe it's not Rooney who'll go through a transition in role, maybe it'd be Kagawa who'd undergo an Anderson-esque transformation.
What's certain though is that Rooney's versatility gives us lots of options in incorporating new signings and rotating throughout the season.
Spoiler:ShowOn a side note...still not believing these Kagawa rumours until I get them from a better source though, although many seem to be treating it as a done deal. The £7mil price seems very low, yes his contract is running out but you'd imagine other teams would be coming in and pushing the price up, unless he has pulled an Ozil and made it clear he only wants to go to one place but I haven't seen anything to suggest that. -
Re: The Manchester United Thread IX
I imagine Kagawa, if he arrives, will provide more options for European nights. He can play on the wing, apparently, so could provide competition for the left side. It could see us move to a more fluent attack, with more players swapping positions. Still not convinced by the rumours either, mind.
