Rock music now - not angry, feisty, grimy etc - I'm disappointed.

I don't see that much angry music on tv anymore :/ even on rock channels (I don't know why I am sad I like loads of different genres of music  ) but on the rock channels all you see now is the lousy music called pop-rock (some of it is good but omg most of it is terrible)
Metal Tuune is pretty good for that. Sky 195 from 11pm.

Grindcore is probably the worst genre of music that exists, it deserves to be laughed at and ridiculous instead of taken seriously, it's worse than black metal.

I kind of see what you're saying, mainstream rock music is certainly less angry than it was in the past, but times change. Punk, grunge, nu-metal etc. are going out of fashion, genres like pop-punk, folk-rock and indie (only certain types) are becoming more popular. However, there are still loads of great bands making great music, and certain styles of music will never stop being angry. You just have to look beyond the mainstream.
Okay, we've got an idiot here. At least back up your claims with some reasoning or you're just exposing your own retardation.

That's ok, but they play the same stuff ALL the time. Did get into Mantic Ritual because of it though I guess.

This is true. Battlecross is the band I enjoyed the most from that show so far.

Saying Black Metal is bad is laughable. Go and listen to both Opus a Satana and Inno a Satana by Emperor and tell me that the instrumentation isn't better than most anything in the charts and beyond.

And as for grindcore, it contains some of the greatest catchiest riffs ever written, is the most angry genre I've ever heard, and some of the most extreme music and imagery. Take Napalm Death. Ignore their comedic side and recognize that Shane Embury is a phenomenal bass player. Everytime I watch my Napalm Death DVD, or listen to their albums I marvel at how great he is.
There are some exceptional black metal bands speaking instrumentally, but the whole corpse paint and angsty lyrics I just find laughable. I can't stand the vocals either. There are maybe a few black metal bands I like, but generally it's just not my thing, I'd rather listen to death metal, doom metal, thrash metal etc.

As for grindcore, I just don't get, it's just noise to me.

I'll say it a million times more, but noise is great too. If you want some really angry music listen to Sutcliffe Jugend's 'When Pornography Is No Longer Enough' (other tags: sick, depraved)

@lukas, I think with regards to black metal, you've probably just not heard much as the vocals vary hugely from band to band. A lot of the Norwegian second wave sounded similar vocally but stuff like Sarcofago and Revenge sounds very different.

As for corpse paint, I'd have thought a death metal fan was able to look past image.

    Nine Inch Nails?

I can't believe that the OP is lamenting the lack of heavy, angry rock and is using Foo Fighters and Green Day as their case in point. Srsly? Nothing against either band they're hardly known for demonic riffs and furious tones.

The 2nd wave was pretty much a bunch of pissed off sub 20 year olds who were probably a bunch of nerds, I doubt any sensible person would deny that now. I kind of like the whole corpsepaint thing, gives it a bit of theatrics, seeing them use it live is pretty cool. Lyrically it's not that angsty at all, of course depending on the band, it's normally more about power, nature, ancient history, satanism (childish most of the time, but anything showing how stupid christianity is, is fine by me.) rather than angst, which is more associated with emoey stuff I guess. Not liking vocals is fair enough.

Surprised you like death metal and not grindcore, they aren't incredibly dissimilar, I tend to see grindcore as a really punk death metal, or a really extreme punk with metal elements. Of course stuff like Sore throat and Electro Hippies has no metal elements whatsoever.

I like Massona, so I'm gonna give that Sutcliffe Jugend a go. I don't get why Merzbow is so revered, but I am a massive noob in noise terms so I can't say I know anything about it.

good music is timeless, just because a band has gone for a more mellow sound lately doesn't mean all their old stuff has disappeared.

It's power electronics rather than strictly noise - if you like Whitehouse you'll probably like it. Merzbow is revered because of his pioneering status and because, although he has a lot of **** releases (E-Study is woeful, and Surabhi isn't great, for instance), there is also a lot of pure gold (Pulse Demon, 1930, the 13 Japanese Birds series)...

I haven't heard whitehouse, just a few releases by Melt Banana and Massona. I got the merzbox and have listened to some stuff from it, and it's ok, but after a few minutes it wears thin, and the songs are always >ten minutes. And I'm the sort of person who tends to enjoy the longest songs on the album the most.

Can't remember Falconer, can only watch it when I'm at home. Have you seen that one that's something along the lines of "bury me in ****e"? it's so **** but so hilarious I want to know what it is.
