Would only get membership if you want to use some specific equipment e.g. weights.

If it's just for cardio it's pointless. Running is much more enjoyable outside and it's free.

Never be intimidated by weights, just make sure you start light and build up. weights are a great way to get in shape!

Anyone can overtrain, and often easier than you think. For example if your spending more than 1 hour on a muscle group chances are you will over train that muscle.
