Do you listen to music by people you don't like (as people)?
Music, albums, singles, gigs, bands, artists and anything else musical you can think of.

Re: Do you listen to music by people you don't like (as people)?Amy Winehouse is the name that sprang to mind after reading the title.(Original post by TheWorldEndsWithMe)
Well, I never liked Amy Winehouse but I still like the song Rehab.
I think she was a fool, but some of her songs are good. -

Conversely, there are a lot of people in bands that seem like really nice people, I just don't like the band they're in. Dave Grohl, for example, seems like a really good chap but I don't like the Foo Fighters all that much (but I do like Nirvana).

Frankly the 'face behind the music' doesn't matter much too me. I don't care about whether they're the nicest people in the world or not. If I like the music, i'll continue to buy record and go to gigs. If there's an opportunity to meet n' greet, i'll approach with caution, but that's as far as it goes.

Re: Do you listen to music by people you don't like (as people)?Agree with you on this one, he's a great artists - his Spliff Dub was the first dubstep I ever listened to. Massive git though.(Original post by Doughnut)

Hmm, sometimes. His interviews are always worth a watch but he can be so grating sometimes. I think he's got an interview with Nas where he brings up something he probably didn't need to and it all goes sour from there.(Original post by SillyRodent)
Nardwuar interviews are a good judge of character, I discover more and more every video I watch!
Example:
But it's definitely always worth seeing how the artists react to his style.
I was specifically going to emphasise him haha. His production is inspired, I love his music with a passion.(Original post by Newbie123)
I'm surprised no-one's said Kanye...
I can see why everyone hates him, he's very dislikeable but I feel that if he wasn't such a persona his music wouldn't be as incredible. -
Re: Do you listen to music by people you don't like (as people)?
I do. You don't know any of them personally anyway so all you're really seeing is what the media tells you about them. As consumers we're constantly funding business that dickish people are profiting from and we don't ask questions. I don't see why the music industry should be an exception.
The only time I stop listening to entertainers I don't like is when comedians keep overstepping the mark and making ridiculously offensive jokes. I thought it was really nasty what Frankie Boyle said about Katie Price's son and his disability. If he wants to make a dig about her and the way she lives her life then fair enough, she's an adult, she can look after herself and it wouldn't be the first time a comedian made a nasty remark about her. Making nasty jokes about her disabled son is completely out of order though and I'm glad it's had a negative impact on his career because I think he deserved it. -

Don't mean to derail this thread but this kind of attitude p!sses me off.
Frankie Boyle is not trying to directly hurt anyone with his jokes. no comedian does. The point is to be funny. Sick jokes, and racist jokes, are so popular not because everyone is sick and racist, but because it's a satire statement on the people who are.
The comedians know it's outrageous, and its not their belief, and so do (most of) the public. And that's where the humour comes from. You don't like it, fine, and yes its not always funny, but before you judge someone you should understand where the humour is supposed to come from. -
Re: Do you listen to music by people you don't like (as people)?Sorry but you don't have to make nasty jokes about disabled children in order to be funny. It's not necessary and it's just plain immoral. I think their style of comedy is a sort of reflection of their personality. I wouldn't listen to an artist who sang songs that took the piss out of disabled kids so I'm certainly not going to watch a comedian who does it. I like Jonathan Ross because in my eyes what him and Russell Brand did was kinda bad but not THAT bad and it was blown hugely out of proportion. I think Frankie Boyle is the only comedian I would consider to be too offensive.(Original post by James4d)

Re: Do you listen to music by people you don't like (as people)?Shockingly, its not the only type of humour comedians use. Its just something to add to the material.(Original post by littleone271)

But its not a reflection on them as people. A stand up show isn't always someone talking about their lives and their views. Everything is exaggerated or put on because its a show.(Original post by littleone271)

The point I was trying to make is that its ironic- its making fun of the people who make fun, so to speak. If you don't get, you don't get it- fine. But it doesn't make the comedian a bad person.
