Interesting feedback. Due to glasses having an image of being 'nerdy' or perhaps a more flattering 'intelligence', that can usually benefit people with glasses. E.G: The sterotypical professor with glasses. However, that sterotype is becoming less potent. I've heard two different perspectives on whether or not glasses makes the eyes look better.

A) Glasses draw attention towards the eyes.
B) They obscure your face.
Which one sounds most convincing?

This is all very vain I know, but fun never-the-less.

I'd say B), for sure.

Interesting to see that's there no strong preference on either side. On balance it looks like people would prefer a person without glasses, but the sample size is too week. Anyone fancy paying YouGov/ICM to do a scientific sample?
I like guys who wear glasses when they're doing work/reading/driving or whatever...I think it looks cute...not sure if they wore them all the time though. They also have to be a nice style.

What do you people think about the idea that people will naturally be inclined to avoid glasses, as people are attracted to people who will produce kids who are strong, healthy, tall and have good eye sight etc. Intelligence associated with glasses is socialised, but attraction in this sense isn't. I can't imagine there's much in it (possibly even swinging the other way when socialised factors are taken into account) but an intereting thought never-the-less.
UniKid: I do no think many people think in those terms. Weighing up the advantages as you say to produce kids that are strong, healthy and have good eye sight. Well not intentionally I might add. Wearing glasses does not make you unhealthy and weak. Our sight is one of the weakest senses we have and that is universal. There are too many factors to consider in regards to why someone might need glasses.

That being said I wear glasses. I never needed them a few years back. To compare life with and without in terms of what people find attractive, when pulling on a night out I found that wearing glasses wielded better results. I think this is because I have dark rings under my eyes and thus wearing glasses obscures that part of my face. I have also been told I have nice eyes when I do not wear them so I am at odds with this question.

Now...glasses on someone else. Well I voted in the poll no preference. It seems that the people who wear glasses do not want to and the people that do not need glasses wear them. Wearing glasses used to be seen as nerdy but are now considered the must have fashion accessory.
Normally I'd say without. But the freaky thing is, my bf actually looks better with glasses. They balance his face somehow. The tragedy is, he doesn't need to wear them! :'(
I'm not particularly bothered to be honest; I don't really tend to go for a particular "type" - I'm just attracted to who I'm attracted to, regardless of whether they wear glasses or not.

My boyfriend says I look nice either way but he prefers it when I'm not wearing my glasses as he can see my eyes better. Unfortunately for him that's not very often as my eyesight is terrible :p:

It's true that glasses can benefit you if it covers a part of your face that you dont want one to see! I never said wearing glasses makes you unhealthy and weak. I'm merely arguing that it seems logical to me that people will, perhaps on a subconcious level prefer people without glasses as they will be thinking about how to produce a healthy child. Perhaps that is why women are more likely to be attracted to tall men with a good set of hair. It used to be the case that women would be attracted to those who were overweight as it showed wealth. There's been arguments that some are now attracted to slim/skinny people as that shows wealth (poorer people in the West are now more likely to be obese.) So I see no reason why this doesn't transfer over to glasses.

I should note that I wear glasses. However, I'm going to try contact lenses, partly for practial reasons (sport, swimming etc.) I've also been told it obscures my face. But if contacts are uncomfortable I wouldn't suffer in the thought that somebody may be slightly less attracted to me! I'm sure girls would rather somebody who'd be a good father than have perfect eye sight!
