Re: If Britain went to war to protect her sovereignty would you answer the call?i believe ive had a discussion on this topic with you before?(Original post by Alofleicester)
hell no. I'm stringently anti-war, there's nothing that could make me join the military in any capacity. -
Re: If Britain went to war to protect her sovereignty would you answer the call?
In this scenario have we been invaded or are we playing a "a good defence is a good offence" and hitting them first?
If their were enemy troops para-shooting down on our land, then yeah I'd defend myself and people I knew to the best of my ability. Hell I'd probably die, but I wouldn't just say "no I'm against violence of all kind" and surrender myself. I wouldn't sign up to fight in a foreign land, but if my way of life here was under threat and our homes were being bombed..then yeah I'd take up arms. -
Re: If Britain went to war to protect her sovereignty would you answer the call? There is "War Plan Red" that was written up in the 1920's-1930's (I forget..) although that wasn't exactly a plan to instigate a war with Britain. It was more strategic planning as some in America were concerned of the strength/growth of the Empire in recent years and a conflict of interests, especially commercial with us having too much influence. I think in part it was more a fear we'd instigate it for some reason and attack via Canada at first, then back it up with a full scale naval invasion, obviously at that time our navy was superior.(Original post by ckingalt)
I must have missed that meeting.
Basically it discusses America noting strategic ports and airfields in Canada, they'd quickly invade at the first sign of trouble and capture/destroy these areas so we couldn't supply Canada. I assume they'd then rush forces to the Eastern front, though obviously with other territories our navy could attack from multiple locations.
I did read about a more offensive American plan which involved them attacking Australia/New Zealand and any far Eastern territories we held first. I assume to prevent an attack on their Western side? But I'm not sure what that was about, or if it might have been a further aspect of that "War Plan Red".
Nice to know we never made one up to attack America, apparently we believed it would be too easy to bottleneck the UK and with your much larger pool of troops, we'd have to surrender. Think that was later on though, post WW2, not sure why we were thinking it then. Maybe thought you'd capitalise on a damaged Europe and try and take it over?

Re: If Britain went to war to protect her sovereignty would you answer the call?I, for one, would fight for this country (England).(Original post by TRS-T)
Imagine if we got invaded by Pakistan or India.
No Asians would fight for our country.
It would left to the white people, -

I am sure all those Irishmen or Scotsmen in our army would definitely be very happy to fight for us against their respective countries and kill their brothers and cousins should there be a war!!! Those brown people can be so thankless indeed

I'd help out as in medically - so treat the wounded but wouldn't do any of the actual combat stuff
I wanted to be an army doctor before anyway (and still do want to work in that sort of situation) so would definitely sign up in that aspect but as a soldier - no way.
(Although yes I am aware that to be a medical officer - you still need the basic military training, but on no grounds whatsoever could go and fight). -
Re: If Britain went to war to protect her sovereignty would you answer the call?Even if we had no choice about the war? If we were fighting on home soil against an invading aggressor, would you not be prepared to join the medical corps even if you didn't want to fight?(Original post by Alofleicester)

Re: If Britain went to war to protect her sovereignty would you answer the call?Medic - possibly, although I'm not studying medicine or nursing, nor can I drive (or have any inclination to learn how to do so - cycling is the way forwards), so I can't see what use I'd be there...(Original post by Arbolus)

Re: If Britain went to war to protect her sovereignty would you answer the call?Surely the native Americans already had a culture set up before the whites came?(Original post by ras90)
I knew somebody would say that. Which is why I already had this responce prepared.
When people moved to America, they were establishing a new place together.
There was no pre set culture, everyone going there was "on the same team". Therefor it is a completely different situation. -

Re: If Britain went to war to protect her sovereignty would you answer the call?
so many of you slagging off the fact that this country doesn't care for you, go and live in a third world country where they have real problems - such as where their next meal is coming from. We have poverty in the UK, a tiny % control a disproportionate amount of wealth but at least it provides us with a relatively safe environment where we're not struggling for existence on a day-to-day basis. And if not fight for the country then at least fight to prevent some **** like tevez ever playing for england...

Re: If Britain went to war to protect her sovereignty would you answer the call?
I think it's a disgrace that more people have said no than yes. I'm not a fascist or a nationalist because I know that's what some of you will say, but if my country was under threat I'd answer the call.
The fact some people would be happy to let this country become weak, get invaded, destroyed is shocking! I'm sure these are the people who sit at home complaining about bankers and capitalism whilst their mum and dads pay for everything they do do they can sit and moan about EVERYTHING that the government does, regardless of who's in power.
I'm not even fiercely patriotic but I would defend this country for my own safety and the safety of its citizens
