I agree with most people here, not particularly good headphones and at a ridiculous price because of the celebrity endorsement.

It amazes me that people will spend so much money on a sub-standard pair of headphones simply because they are endorsed by Dr Dre. :argh:

They're crap. They sound like they should be £25 headphones and even then the comfort for £25 is poor. I'd rather my £15 IEMs (I go through IEMs every six months as I never look after them so I'm reluctant to buy better ones) which are Klipsch K1s than the POS Beats.

    Hi people,

I am just interested to know your feelings and thoughts about Dr Dre beats headphones - Specifically the solo and studio versions.

Whether you own a pair or have tried a pair on then let me know what you think:

    Do you like them?

Do you like the style of them?

Do you appreciate the celebrity endorsements?

Why choose these headphones rather than other headphones?

Thank you, all your comments will be appreciated

    Yes.

    Yes.

No. Not since they got a JB version anyway...

I wouldn't. They're expensive and they don't sound that great for me as an audiophile.

indeed, but headphones are not used often.

Monitors are used 95% of the time. Headphones merely to test a mix, often the final bounce.
Oh yeah I wasn't questioning whether or not monitors were normally used, I don't know enough about studio work to know what's the norm. I was just saying that Dre has been seen using over-ear headphones from other manufacturers during studio time, and highlighting the irony that he doesn't use his own which carry the claim that they let you hear the music "how the musician meant it to be heard" =P

Most people interested in audio will say they are objectively poor headphones, they really do not sound good.
Really? when i tryed them out they were acceptable, not for the price not by a long shot but none the less

If you're looking for a pair of aestheitcally pleasing phones with decent quality sound look no further than Panasonic (someone has posted a pic). And you get hold of them for around £40, which is what they are worth.

Ive tried a few models of them; Tour, Solo HD and Studio.

The Tours are pretty bad, they sound alright if you listen to bass-heavy-stuff otherwise theyre junk.

Solo HDs are significantly better, much better for general music but still quite bass heavy and again are more suited to bass-heavy-stuff but are more well rounded than the Tours.

Studios are actually good, I got a pair recently (didnt pay the £x00's for them) and im very happy with them, if I paid the RRP I think I would be disappointed. Good for pretty much all styles I listen to, I also like the way they fold up into a case and have a microphone and all that so I can use them on my iPhone and fold them up and leave them in the car glovebox.

Will also have my hands on a pair of Pros in a week or so too.

I wouldnt pay the full price for any of them because they arent worth it but that doesnt mean theyre bad, just overpriced.

Has anyone tried the Marshall headphones? I've got ~£100 sennheisers but they're a little too bulky to be taking with me all the time, so was wondering whether they were any good?

A good illustration of how they're regarded would be to go into an audiophile forum like head-fi and ask which set of Beats would be best and watch the responses, they're genuinely poor headphones when listened to critically. A more humorous illustration can be found in this ex audio engineer's (And founder of two very popular audiophile websites) "review"

They're meant to be ok, decent sound quality but nothing spectacular.

People wear them for the brand, but as a headphone, they really aren't that great.

Edit: Probably sounded harsh. They aren't crap, but they are overpriced (relying on the brand) and you could get better headphones for the price.

Exactly, but they're being sold as if he does and people are obviously meant to think he uses them, there's no way the frequency response is anywhere near flat. Eric Prydz apparently does most of his production work on headphones then does the final mix on monitors, I used to do the same with my HD25s

Indifferent, I bought them not even knowing they were endorsed by celebrities - In fact it's off putting in a way, because now you get all the reverse snobbery with people assuming that you're a dick just because you have a certain brand of headphones.
Tried somebody else's and liked the sound quality and the way they looked
You didn't know 'Beats by Dr. Dre' were endorsed by Dr. Dre?

Perhaps I should have said, "When I made the decision to buy them..." for the internet pedants. My friend just called them Beats.

Despite all the hate, they have made headphones in general, more popular. Previously, earphones were used by the majority and headphones were only really used in private. Nowadays it's more acceptable to use a pair of bulky headphones in public and not get looked at like a weirdo. I think it's probably due to Beats making headphones more "mainstream". My girlfriend bought me a pair of cheap fakes from Hong Kong so they weren't really that amazing. I have tried real ones on in HMV though and not that impressed, only the top of the range pair are any good.

I bought the Studio ones but didn't particularly like them so I decided to exchange them for Bose Quietcomfort 15, which I love.
I don't know much about headphones but your best bet is headfi.org as it has loads of audiophiles wanting to give you their opinion on the best headphones to get.
