    Computer Science Ph.D For Entrepreneur?
Example: An entrepreneur found a company that develops artificial intelligence products.

I'm wondering would it be wise for such an entrepreneur to study for a phd in computer science so that he could help conduct research in his company's r&d department?

Or would it be better for him to just go for a Masters?

Far more likely that the product will be a spin off of research from during his PhD. If he's already the head of the company, he won't have time to get a PhD without taking leave if it's bigger than a couple of people.

A masters is a prerequisite for a PhD. Why don't you just start there and see if research is for you after you have a degree?
