Re: Any tips on how to improve my arms? (pic included)Yeah fair enough.(Original post by redbuthotter)
They are to an extent obviously, but I don't think hammering out yates rows and pulldowns is going to correct posture and shoulder position problem?
when I tore my rotator cuff my physio had me do a lot of movements but with my lat really consciously tensed.
The way he described it was to imagine you're trying to pull your right shoulder blade diagonallly across your back to your left hip. (assuming the problem was with your right shoulder). That makes your shoulder fall back into the correct position and then I did a lot of high volume band work whilst holding that position (stuff that can be done on a cable machine too) such as straight arm pulldowns.
HOWEVER I'm sure how to fix it it really depends on which of the four main tendons is damaged so I'd always say that if it's a real injury, see a physio! -

Cool, this sounds rly good actually. How did u execute this? Was it on a pulley or just bw? Whats the logic behind straight arm pulldowns?
I don't know too much about it tbh, I just know it feels better if I do some high rows after benching.

Re: Any tips on how to improve my arms? (pic included)I had bands (of increasing resistance over time) that I tied onto something above my head, or tied a knot in and closed in the top of the door, then pulled down from a my arm straight out in front of me to by my side.(Original post by redbuthotter)

the logic was something to do with strengthening the supporting tendons and muscles in the back of the shoulder/rotor cuff. Also did medicine ball stuff supporting the balls with a straight arm and lat pulled tight, some body weight stuff putting increasingly more of my weight on the arm, again with lat tensed. I'm not sure, I just did what the physio told me to do, haha!
altogether it worked, I still do it a couple of times a week before every bench session.
Edit- just holding the lat and shoulder in place is hard enough. I spent about a whole hour being taught how to hold it correctly on my first session. So doing ten pull-downs with an injured shoulder while holding it is very tiringLast edited by Arturo Bandini; 07-04-2012 at 18:49. -

I'm having trouble picturing it (will get monk to help). Are there any videos online or perhaps you could make a demonstration lol

Re: Any tips on how to improve my arms? (pic included)yeah I've been looking, this is the closest I could find:(Original post by redbuthotter)

Skip to about a minute in. I did it standing up though, and one arm at a time, and focussed way more on the back and holding the position of the lat and shoulder throughout the whole movement. And I did it much slower, like 3-4 seconds eccentric and 3-4 concentric.
Like I said, this is only one of many movements but it was one of the most effective imo. When you pull your lat across your back you should feel your shoulder drop back a little. It has to stay in the position throughout all movements and not roll forward -
