Tenses? - Help urgently needed!
Hi, I'm writing a letter for a work experience placement (second letter), and I'm not sure whether it's "are" or "were" and was hoping that someone could just clarify it. It's as a reminder email.
Thank you for considering me for a placement at the Renal Unit, and I am emailing to see whether you [were] able to accommodate me for work experience.
Is it were or are? (He said to email to 'remind him') I thought are, but friend said were

It's been a while since you posted and nobody's replied yet...maybe you should check out MarkedbyTeachers.com, TSR's sister site. It has the largest library of essays in the UK.
They've got over 181,000+ coursework, essays, homeworks etc.. all written by GCSE, A Level, University and IB students across all topics. You get access either by publishing some of your own work, or paying £4.99 for a month's access. Both ways give you unlimited access to all of the essays.
All their documents are submitted to Turnitin anti-plagiarism software, so it can't be misused, and the site's used by hundreds of thousands of UK teachers and students.
What's more, you can take a look around the site and preview the work absolutely free. Click here to find out more... -
Re: Tenses? - Help urgently needed!
I think you should actually use "will be", since you're interested in whether they will be able to accommodate you in the future, not in the past or present. Most people probably wouldn't bat an eyelid if you used "are" instead, though "were" would be out of place.

Re: Tenses? - Help urgently needed!
You should have a full stop in the middle, and I hate 'whether'.
Here is your perfect sentence
:
"Thank you for considering me for a placement at the Renal Unit. I am emailing to ask if you are able to accommodate me for work experience."
You could say "still able" if it seems to fit your situation better.
Hope that helps

Shame I had already sent off this email, but thanks again. And I got the placement
For the record, I used "are"
