can anyone find us a laptop with dedicated graphics
my sister I have to share a laptop which sucks because we both want different things.

we've compromised and we are looking for an:

    i5 processor
    4GB+ RAM
decent size memory in the hd
nvidia dedicated graphics card (a good one)

and all for less than £600!
    can it be done?!?
most important things are processor and the graphics card.

It will be extremely difficult to find a decent GPU in a laptop for under £600 first hand, so your best bet is probably the Dell Outlet. Bare in mind prices are ex-vat, so pick one which is "under £500"

I recently bought a Lenovo Z575 laptop with an AMD A8 Quad core processor and dual graphics: Radeon 6650M/6620G. It cost around £630 I believe and runs Skyrim on medium/high really well. 8gb ram, and a bluray drive too. I'm really happy with it.

I've got the GT540M in my Samsung, and it's not a bad GPU at all for a sub-£1000 laptop. Nothing high end, but pretty powerful nonetheless. That Tosh doesn't come with dedicated graphics memory unlike my Samsung, though, and is going to have to use some of that 8GB memory.

Also no i5, just an i3, but on laptops the difference isn't too great between them. Only real performance boost is when you get to the quad-core i7 chipsets.

What about a Sony Vaio E series (directly from their website).

Although the graphics card will be a Nvidia 410 1 GB which is relatively old but may possibly still do the job.

i5 processor and can get 4 or 6GB RAM.

You can configure your model, here's a link if you're interested

£600 including vat, Certified Refurbished, but it'll have warranty, and looks great for gaming.

    I've played, so far:

Mass Effect 2 and 3 - best quality without any problem
Eve Online - med/high settings with HDR turned off and shadows and FSAA set to low
Team Fortress 2 - best possible settings (goes for all Source engine games)
    Battlefield 3 - low-med settings

But bear in mind this is on a Samsung RF711 with:
    i7-2670QM @ 2.2GHz (3.1GHz Turbo); Quad-core, 6MB Cache (a LOT more powerful than any i5 or i3)
    8GB DDR3 memory
GT540M chip with 2GB dedicated memory
    1TB HDD
    Blu-ray drive

It's not going to be as good with an i3 or i5, and shared memory.

£849.99 (although I had some staff discount to bring it down beyond that price, that's the lowest I can find it anywhere).

Frankly it's a beast. Excellent keyboard, excellent performance, excellent build quality. Could not recommend it enough.

    Isn't the GT540 acting as a bottleneck ?
with that machine you should be running somewhere around a GTX series ?

btw, awesome deal !! really awesome.. so much for just £849.99!!

Dell is honestly a bump in all seriousness, just look around the internet at known websites.

Seems pretty good for the money. Have you googled for a review of the model, just to check it doesnt have any particular issues?
