I'm doing Civil Rights '45-'68 and Politics, Presidency and Society '68-'01

I don't have a clue how much I'm supposed to know, so I think I've gone overboard on random facts

    Such as:
$130 billion - the amount Reagan used to bail-out the banks after he told them to take more risks
25% of the 250,000 Marchers on Washington were white
the Black Panthers's newspaper had an estimated readership of one million
That's the level of detail you need to get into level five (if used appropriately). If it's in the textbook, learning it won't hurt but if you were to start reeling off irrelevant facts from government statistics then you might have a problem.. :P

So it is fair to say that you do not always need to argue for and against the question. It seems that the mark scheme sometimes don't identify whether there would be two sides to the argument. That is where i get confused.

    For example in the question

"To what extent did Stalin establish a personal dictatorship in the years 1929-1939?"

The mark scheme does not mention any points relating to Stalin did not create a personal dictatorship. Does this mean that you just state how he did, and then sum up which point carries the most weight and then conclude?
    Intro (brief judgement)

Points to how he didn't (3+)
(in this order assuming you are going to agree with the statement, opposite if not)
Points to how he did (3+)

    Conclusion (explained judgement)

is how I would answer the question

Think of it as your stereotypical iceberg type question.

My teachers constantly tell us to PEEL our answers - point, evidence, explain, link
    so guys... PEEL!!!!!!!!!

I'm praying 1905 revolution and ww2 come up tomorrow, but I think they did in the January paper so it's unlikely

Doing this tomorrow! Options D4 and D5 on Russia. Feeling okay for it, but just hoping Stalin's rise to power comes up - our teacher said it comes up 50% of the time? All depends on the question though.

Has anyone got any good revision material for this?

Which unit is it A,B,C or D?

If they are two separate sections e.g. B2 and B4 then there will always be two questions on each

Same, I'm doing Civil Rights and Stalin's Russia. We haven't covered it either! My History teacher just said don't worry about the other ethnic minorities and skip the question if it comes up.

I just hope a question on it doesn't come up!
I really hope so too! I think it's so rubbish the way they put in hispanics and other minorities right at the end of the book and it's only a small section so I don't know how i'd be able to write an essay on that.

I'm doing Russia in revolution (about the tsar and stuff) too :'(

    Good luck for tomorrow!

im doing civil rights and the usa in asia. i think the questions on civil rights might be on the early period 45-55 to do with success perhaps or the role of ww2. or it could be peaceful protest 55-68 or black power. and for vietnam im thinking maybe a question around why they lost or the tet offensive or something to do with comparing presidents actions. hope that helps! i just cant wait for it to be over.

The only past papers which have semi-appropriate questions are unit 1 option e & f's. However the first questions on The Road to Italian Unification i am almost certain we have not covered. We started our course on Liberal Italy which is after the country has already been united!

I'm doing Stalin too- I feel a bit sick at the amount I have to memorise, I want to focus on certain sections but I'm sure that a question about something stupid like socialist realism will come up and screw me over? Advice? Any certain topic anyone can recommend I focus my attention on? I read the predicitions on this thread but it makes me feel a bit sick so can anyone bullet point stuff to focus on...?
    So far I've got
    -Great Retreat
    -Superpower
    -The purges
I like these topic and feel I could do alright on them but can anyone add to the list?
