Songs you listened to before they became mainstream.
When this happens, people tend to put a claim over the song. So I guess just put forth songs, past or present that you liked and listened and then everyone started to listen to it.
In my case it's Carly Rae Jepsen - Call me maybe.
I found it really catchy, my friends didn't like it.. and now I saw that song on one of them's Ipod!!!

Somebody That I Used To Know was included in a mixtape I downloaded in early 2011, but I'm glad that more people have heard it now! I hate people who "claim" songs and go mad if someone likes it after they did, popularity and exposure is a good thing!

Lana del rey 'blue jeans', started listening to that back in Nov 2011 and now it's everywhere but it's good
she's incredibly talented! (And finally some real music rather than all the pop rubbish recycled by the likes of Rihanna and Nicki Minaj).

Hipster
But I'm a music hipster and I don't care who knows it, so:
Default and Storm - Django Django
Somebody That I Used To Know - Gotye (though I only really started liking it when it got mainstream)
Pumped Up Kicks - Foster The People
Lets Go Surfing - The Drums
Also, I knew of most stuff by these artists well before they got big:
Ben Howard - I'd seen him twice before he even got a single play on Radio 1, I'm that cool
Lucy Rose
Bombay Bicycle Club
Laura Marling - been listening to her since she was 17 and never stop being awed by how amazing she is
Dry the River
Admiral Fallow
I could go on but I'm going to stop embarrassing myself now. -
Re: Songs you listened to before they became mainstream.Very good!(Original post by Skarm)
Why did the hipster burn his tounge?
Because he drank his coffee before it was cool.
By the way I happened to notice the mighty JBW in your signature - he is pretty awesome. -

Only song that comes to mind is The A Team by Ed Sheeran. On his Loose Change EP a year before Radio 1/Capital radio etc stations stated to pick him up. Was good before before being ruined by being overplayed. Might get back into it when the hypes dyed down.
