Re: OCR Biology F212 (Molecules, Biodiversity, Food and Health)- 21st May 2012Hey, you described them accurately but just mixed the names up, so you'd probably only lose a mark for getting the names wrong, but get the rest for explaining.(Original post by Trimbag01)
Guys for the variation question i described discontinuous amd continuous but i think i named them wrongly. Decribed continuous while stating it was discontinuous, would i lose all marks or just one for naming it wrong?
(( so annoyed

Re: OCR Biology F212 (Molecules, Biodiversity, Food and Health)- 21st May 2012ahh hopefully!! you scored more marks than me in one question thats for sure! how did you do in f211? we are up quite late arent we(Original post by PrincessMedic)
Ahh damn, I put selective breeding instead of natural...how silly! But I did mention that the characteristics are passed onto offspring and I said environmental , because they'd need it to survive predators?! Ahaha!
Awh, yeah that question caught everyone out! I read about it on the bus to school and just literally wrote down continuous and discontinuous variation and then I didn't expand. Maybe I'll get 1 mark for mentioning them
Grade boundaries should be low this year

Re: OCR Biology F212 (Molecules, Biodiversity, Food and Health)- 21st May 2012Ahaha, I scored like 1 mark(maybe) on that question(Original post by Theafricanlegend)

I almost started laughing when I saw the farmer's song. Ahh, F211 was horrible, I was aiming for an A overall but now it's down to an E(If I'm lucky.) How about you?
I didn't even realize the time unit now! It's the pressure...it's gotten to me!

can someone post the paper online or the questions, if they remember them:P
thank you
Done now(Original post by biomagic)
Yeah I think we might have to, i've mentioned this a couple of times but just been ignored again and again

Re: OCR Biology F212 (Molecules, Biodiversity, Food and Health)- 21st May 2012oh really? im sure you'll do fine.. i was talking about jan results! yeah i had a major facepalm moment :L when i saw the poem, i mean cheers ocr for the added humour in the exam, i would've enjoyed it more if i was actually doing well!! i got 76/90 ums in f211 moderately happy i just need an a border a grade and ill be on an a overall! (im not taking it for a2) x wbu?(Original post by PrincessMedic)

Re: OCR Biology F212 (Molecules, Biodiversity, Food and Health)- 21st May 2012I was thinking about putting complementary but then it is induced fit cause the complementary is for lock and key ?(Original post by biomagic)
Yeah me too! Except I didn't say anything about oppositely charged groups
, i think thats a...little extra summat summat you threw in there to gain extra marks right?
But yeah all the rest I got
, Instead of the oppos. charged groups, I said elastin has a complementary shape to the active site of the enzyme....but yeah
, I think we got good marks! I'd think you'd still get full!

Okay guys, good luck in all your other exams... and good luck on the results day.. I know I'm gonna need it.
Good bye and Good day.!

This. Stop worrying, outside our circles of influence.

Re: OCR Biology F212 (Molecules, Biodiversity, Food and Health)- 21st May 2012hi did u get my previous quote?(Original post by biomagic)
Thank you!!! Oh wow, you guys are the best! -
Re: OCR Biology F212 (Molecules, Biodiversity, Food and Health)- 21st May 2012YOU are an absolute gem! Thank you so so so much! +repp!(Original post by PrincessMedic)
Can anyone remember the questions? Maybe if we can remember the questions and marks for each question, we can get an idea of how many marks we've gained/lost? I remember...
QUESTION 1
Label the parts of the enzyme. (2)
Suggest why scientists like to use the induced-fit model instead of the lock and key model. (1)
Why are they described as models? (1)
Which factors would you control while investigating rate of reaction? (3)
Why does the enzyme work slow at XoC(can't remember, was it 1?) in non-Antarctican fish? (2?)
Why is it bad if these fish become extinct and the enzymes are no longer around? (2?)
How might the DNA of the fish differ? (1/2?)
Shape/flexibility of enzyme question(I think...?) (1?)
QUESTION 3(or was it 2?)
Fill in the gaps table. (6)
Name the kingdom the species belongs to. (1)
3 domains question. (3)
RANDOM BITS I CAN REMEMBER:
Big smoking question on smokers cough and long term effects. (6/7)
2 conditions associated with COPD. (2)
How does the elasticity of the alveoli wall relate to induced-fit model. (5)
How can the bats have the ability to echo... if their ancestors didn't? (4)
Why did people think the 2 species were 1 species? (1)
Genus name of Soprano Pipistrelle. (1)
Variation. (7)
Molecules proof of evolution(??) (2)
Sheep and selective breeding. (3)
How can fertilizers help increase yield? (3)
Disadvantage of fertilizers. (2)
How agriculture is affected by decreasing biodiversity? (3?)
Last question(table with terms.) (6)
The difference and similarity between the 2 molecules. (2)
The purpose of tube B. (1)
Test for reducing sugar without colorimeter. (5)
Modifying the test for non-reducing sugar. (3)
How would you increase the reliability? (2)
The student's conclusion of their experiment. (1)
How do farmers increase the productivity of their sheep? (1)
Describe the trend between the FEV's of smokers and non-smokers. (4)
That letter question for testing the enzyme I think. (Debating over L or K? I put K.) (1)
The percentage question. (2)
That's all I can remember? Feel free to add more or make corrections

Re: OCR Biology F212 (Molecules, Biodiversity, Food and Health)- 21st May 2012Hey there, yes I did(Original post by otrivine)
hi did u get my previous quote?
I'm not sure, what does it say in the book? Is it complementary to the active site?
Or is it more around your answer?
:/
I just thought every substrate ( apart from competitive and non competitive) where complemetary to the active site, like always...regardless of induced fit, I mean after the reaction, the substrate won't be complementary because it's broken up/ destabilised blah blah
I'm worried now... -
Re: OCR Biology F212 (Molecules, Biodiversity, Food and Health)- 21st May 2012i think is fine i dont know i hate the book ! cause i read the induced dipole part but no mention of complementary i use the new one book ?? and i said destabilises the enzyme molecule is that correct?(Original post by biomagic)

one thing for continous and discontinous did u say like full range of intermediates , qualitative e.t.c -
Re: OCR Biology F212 (Molecules, Biodiversity, Food and Health)- 21st May 2012
I was up at 4.30 on Sunday morning worrying sick about this exam and revising and now I wish I hadn't bothered revising like I did. =( There is no hope of any grade for me let alone a decent B or C. After OCR's car-crash January paper, I wasn't expecting this monstrosity! Again, they just couldn't lay off the pot whilst setting the questions.

The DNA question for the fish was 2 marks and the smoker's cough was 7 marks. =)(Original post by PrincessMedic)

Re: OCR Biology F212 (Molecules, Biodiversity, Food and Health)- 21st May 2012In that case, you may just lose your QWC mark.(Original post by Nabster365)
But I didnt link it I just wrote about them seperately, explaining why genes and environment have an effect on variation then talked about discontinuous and continuous features trying to make a comment on each.
(( so annoyed
