Over the course of a day? That means he was beaten 5000 times a second... please explain to me how this is possible.

And how come I've had this bloody cough for three weeks now?!

The precise amount of suffering is moot because it's symbolic: as long as it crossed the "shock and awe" threshold it will have been enough.

You want to take this thing down to a science. It could be that one stripe or one blow to Jesus body, equaled a million or more people's sicknesses. As the Bible says that by one man's (Adam) disobedience, many were made sinners. Also by one Man's (Jesus) obedience, many will be made righteous.


The Bible said Jesus was marred more than any man ever was, so if we were keeping records (which I don't know if this is true everywhere, but here in America we love keeping records. We have records of who ate the most cupcakes in a day ) Jesus received the worst beating in the history of mankind. All of it was for our healing, but we must receive it, receive Him.

As deeply unpleasant as crucifixion is, there are worse ways to go. If the point was for Jesus' suffering to redeem man, then why not something more unpleasant?
