You won't be seen as stuck-up if you smile more, and initiate conversations. Don't worry if they don't go anywhere at first. Learning how to do small-talk is an art for those not naturally gifted at it (I wasn't, now with practice it's easy).

I know. It is just hard. I know I have impeccable taste in style/fashion, I am cultured, I am just plain good at stuff.

But, I really suffer badly from social ineptness.
