Re: So who's got info about their shifts?Where abouts are you coming from/to?(Original post by VickyTink)
Got my shifts today, for those that will moan at my post...yes, I understand what 'volunteer' means, since I've been volunteering for nearly 6 years of my life now (and i'm 20 next week...)
Unfortunately, 8 out of my 10 shifts...mean I can't either get there on time (6am) or get home (finish at 12.15/45am, trains for where I'm staying finish at 11.50pm)...I now either have to hope that the increased train routes will be on my times, or see if there's any chance of getting nicer shifts. -

Where abouts are you coming from/to?
Coming from Epsom area (so ewell train stations as zone 6) travelling to Earl's Court. Speaking to my uncle later as well about trains since it's him that i'm staying with, but any advice from you guys is greatly welcome!Last edited by VickyTink; 01-05-2012 at 18:02. -

Re: So who's got info about their shifts?Could do it that way, or West Brompton is near Ewell too, one change at Clapham as far as i've seen...without knowing what lines are going to be extended for olympics it's pretty difficult to plan!(Original post by GodAtum)

Re: So who's got info about their shifts?
According to the Spectator journey planner the earliest train from Ewell East is 0513 arriving at Earls Court at 0616.
If you can get to Wimbledon station by car or taxi the earliest train is 0433.

Re: So who's got info about their shifts?
Thanks
This was the site I was on a few days back but couldn't for the life of me remember where I'd found it!
From speaking to my Uncle he's apparently in the same boat as me with shifts starting and finishing (works for network rail...they're working 24/7 games time) so hopefully we'll have the same times on some days and work things out that way! -
Re: So who's got info about their shifts?
VickyTink, do bear in mind that link, will assume that you are traveling possibly at peak times, (and you probably won't be) and allows for lenthly delays getting into the venue, thats why you get a a longer time than on normal days, therefore use common sense on the timings, also its been found that the routes suggested might not be the best, again checking alternatives may pay dividends .

Re: So who's got info about their shifts?
I got info about my shifts. Not happy. Technically (if there was contract, which i don't think there is) my shifts break EU employment law (volunteering comes under the same regulations). Will probably have to drop out of at least one venue (i'm doing brands hatch and the mall for the paralympics) as one night I would only be able to get 2-3 hours sleep, which is ridiculous. Hopefully they will realise their mistake and change the shift though =/.

Re: So who's got info about their shifts?theres a regulation that within a 24 hour period you must have 11 consecutive hours of rest. Ie. Once you've finished work for the day, you shouldn't start again for 11 hours.(Original post by GodAtum)
What does the Eu employment law say?
Except my shift only has a gap of 8 hours and 45 minutes (Finish at 7:45pm one day, start again 4:30am the next). With one day in kent and the next in central london, when I live in oxford
But obviously it is volunteering, so my guess is is that technically EU laws just don't apply. But at least I'll have a case for when I write saying why I need my shifts changed. -
Re: So who's got info about their shifts?Urmm they asked about my relevent experience(Original post by yusuf123)
