Liam Neeson
Christian Bale
Ian McKellan
Morgan Freeman
Christopher Lee
Daniel Craig
Michael Fassbender
Harrison Ford
Ewan McGregor
Robert Downey Jnr.

Can't really be bothered to look through actors from the '30s so I appear cultured. :/

I love your list, especially Fassbender and Robert Downey Jnr. ^__^

The pronoun who, in English, is the interrogative and relative pronoun that is used to refer to humans.

It's technically outdated, so I'll grant you a half victory.

You've still used it incorrectly. It's not a matter of being outdated as it would never have been correct to use it in the way you have...

Can't be asked to give a top 10, but, my favourite actor is Tom Hanks - he's been brilliant in every part I've known him to do.

Favourite actress - Helena Bonham Carter; she's great, and for some strange reason I feel attracted to her. Clearly I'm just a freak.

I tried to write a name down but my fingers just kept writing Chuck Norris as No.1
Firstly, negging anyone's Top Ten is ridiculous. It is THEIR top ten afterall, it is not THE top ten. Some people prefer cheap thrills/action over dialogue/emotion, and so their choice in actors will of course be different!

Robert De Niro (undisputed for me)
Daniel Day-Lewis
Joaquin Phoenix
Christian Bale
Ryan Gosling (Blue Valentine is incredible. Lars and the Real Girl/Full Nelson also great).
Al Pacino
Humphrey Bogart
Denzel Washington
Brad Pitt
Philip Seymour Hoffman

I thought criticising someone's choices was "ridiculous"?

Sorry, I don't speak negative rep. Please go.

LOL, this! Him having not heard of them says more about him than you! Also, no need for him to be such a prick!

I've stated actors only in the thread title simply because, irrespective of the era, there seems to be/have been more leading men than there have been women. Beyond that, there isn't anything to be said on acting competency or anything of that nature. Perhaps I'll make a thread for top actresses soon after this, provided the thread is successful. Nevertheless, here's my top ten, in no particular order:

1. Albert Finney
2. Gregory Peck
3. James Stewart
4. Jean-Pierre Léaud
5. Harold Lloyd
6. Daniel Day-Lewis
7. Cary Grant
8. Alec Guinness
9. Michael Caine
10. Alain Delon

God, that was difficult. My list changes frequently, though most of the names stay the same.

I'm interested to see just what people's lists turn out like.

Everytime I hear Gregory Peck, it reminds me of this :')

Nicholas Cage - con air and face off were great films. his ability to portray softness and vulnerability but also power and ruthlessness makes him a versatile and talented actor in my opinion.
Leonardo di caprio - my personal favourite actor. he was out of this world amazing in titanic.
Jeremy renner - just mind blowingly amazing in the town
Heath ledger - very versatile. he was a sweet romantic in 10 things I hate about you and fantastically convincing as the joker in the dark knight.
Tom hardy - his comic timing is brilliant especially in inception
Geoffrey rush - should've won an oscar for his part in the king's speech
Owen Wilson - brilliant in how do you know which was otherwise a really bad film
Ralph fiennes - what can I say - the harry potter series, the english patient, the duchess and the reader - were all outstanding films.
Alan rickman - his ability to portray emotion just with his eyes deserves recognition (snape in harry potter)
Robin Williams - convincing portrayal of a psyhco murderer in insomia

The term 'cheap thrills' categorises many films, and those films are usually self-consciously aware of the audience they are appealing to (i.e a group of male friends at the cinema on a friday night prefer explosions and exaggerated sex over a real life drama). I didn't criticise the choice or genre at all.
