I'm not denying it's good to be happy about your life and how you've 'turned out', I'm simply saying being 'proud' doesn't make sense.
    Why not?

    Dictionary definition of pride:
a feeling of honour and self-respect; a sense of personal worth.

    Dictionary definition of proud:
pleased or satisfied, as with oneself, one's possessions, achievements, etc, or with another person, his or her achievements, qualities, etc.

I don't think OP meant proud in an arrogant sort of way, more like in a "I'm not ashamed of who I am" way. Happy Easter to every one on TSR !!!

Er, yes they should. Gay people in particular claim to be proud due to being shoved into the shadows for generations. Being proud of being yourself is a wonderful thing. Theres no need to add conditions onto it.
'Proud' is still a very bad choice of word to use. In my eyes, it makes it sound like gay people are 'proud' to be diffeent. 'Proud' to not be straight. Like being gay makes you a better person. No other person will say "I am proud to be straight/I am proud to be an Athiest/I am proud to be _____". It's a very wrong way of putting it.

Great to see yet another thread in Religion that had the potential to be interesting dragged down by others :sigh:

I personally am proud to be gay and very proud to be different. You may see it as us feeling better than heterosexual people, but thats not the case. Its simply being proud of something that we were told was something to be utterly ashamed of. Until homosexuality is as accepted and everyday as heterosexuality, having pride in ones orientation is perfectly acceptable. Each to their own.

Can we stop arguing about whether 'proud' is the right word to use?

The OP is just happy and so he should be

Isn't pride a strange word to use though? It implies that it's something you've put work in to achieve, being any of those things. It's equally stupid to say you're proud of your race, or where you were born.
I know somebody who is related to Jews who lived in Poland in the 1930's. They survived, so I think that's something to be proud of, which she is.

I sleep with both men and women, but can categorically say that there is no such thing as a gay Christian.

What? No it isn't. Yeah, it's obviously good that they survived and they probably went through an awful lot and deserve respect, but her being 'proud' of that fact is as ridiculous as me being proud of it, seeing as we both had nothing to do with it. Pride indicates a personal achievement, which in your friend's case, this was not.

You know that book Christians use, I think it's called the bible or something. I heard it plays a pretty big part.

Well, it mentions a few times in there about homosexuality, something like

    Leviticus
Homosexual acts are an abomination to God. 18:22
If a man has sex with another man, kill them both. 20:13

I'm against gay Christians. I'm not a gay, or a christian, I just don't understand how someone can be so stupid as to be gay and Christian, you're supporting something that inherently wants to kill you. Dumb ****s.

Hell, have a whole page of why God hates homosexuals: http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/gay/long.htm

Personally, I've got nothing against gays or Christians. I just have a problem with idiots (Which Gay Christians inherently are).

And for all those people who are going to neg me: "You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life." ~ Churchill

Oh the irony. I assume you don't really know much about how the bible has been warped to fit each generation through the years? Abomination is a completely made up translation of the word toevah and means that something is permitted to one group but forbidden from another. It does not mean that gays and lesbians are hated by god. Its also interesting to note that the word homosexual didn't even exist then.

Anyway, each to their own. Not every christian follows the bullish*t thats been laid out for them. There are very few christians in this world, they're mainly all religious nutters who can't see the forest for the trees.

Still, don't let that stop you being such an arrogant stain. If you feel the need to judge people based on their decisions in life then you're as much an idiot as you claim gay christians to be.

You can either abstain from homosexual sex, or choose to believe that God has better things to be bothered about

Thankfully for all concerned, Christianity does not revolve around Leviticus

wow. Actually you're right, the bible doesn't talk about lesbians, it's all about man-love.

Well, the vast majority of Christians have to go with some translation given to them, unless you really want me to believe that there is some school for gay Christians teaching Hebrew/Aramaic so they can make their own translations?
Or perhaps they just hear the version they want from pro-gay christians, which will be equally as distorted as the version from their anti-gay counterparts.
So yes, I think it's fair to say all Christians (except for a very very small number) go with some "bullish*t thats been laid out for them"

"If you feel the need to judge people based on their decisions in life then you're as much an idiot as you claim gay christians to be."

What a foolish person you are. That is the only way to judge people. Tell me, how do you judge a thief? a murderer? Stalin? Hitler? By their decisions and actions!
You mean to tell me you are completely neutral to every person you meet? You can't think good of them as that would be judging them by their actions.

So believe what you will, I know you won't back down, you're heralding the truth and liberalism! (Though, of course you don't expect praise, as that would mean people are judging you!). At the end of the day I couldn't care less.

As a funny aside, you called me an "arrogant stain", now, you wouldn't be basing that /judgement/ of my character on my decisions and actions, would you? Hoisted by your own petard (retard).
