lol, accepted, sorry, somewhat ironically I'm procrastinating painfully dull revision by commenting on this thread, I realise I didn't exactly contribute anything of value there.

That said, I must say that thinking "it'll work out okay anyway" has always motivated me not to work. I think there's a genuine "I'd better work otherwise I might work behind a till for the rest of my life" element of motivation by fear here, however unpleasant you may find it that some people don't want to work behind tills for the rest of their lives, and not revising makes that more likely even though there will still be opportunities. I don't think it necessarily comes with scorn for those who do work behind tills, though I'll quite happily accept that some people do scorn those who do, and ofc that's not nice/ right.

I say all this as I ignore the textbook that's sitting on my table in front of me
Why don't you concentrate on what you do want to become, rather than what you fear? Surely that's better motivation?

You'll be revising with the aid of ambition rather than with the fear that you have to.

Nothing its a fantastic university! I cannot fault the teaching or the staff! But just some people have felt down being there. I've witnessed my friend going through a very rough time and its hard to see . Although I must mentioned other friends are having the time of their lives!
    Oh right
I'm sure it happens everywhere to be honest, some people will just be unlucky and go through a hard time. Hope your friend gets past it and enjoys the rest of his/her time at Uni.

Okay guys, because thinking like that is a great source of motivation
It's about being realistic. I knew people were pessimistic when I was revising for A-levels, I still got down to it and ended up at the uni I chose. You can face facts and decide that you want to do what's best for you- and going to uni isn't all about getting a job at the end of it, it should primarily be about devoting yourself to a subject you love for intense study.

I always find the carrot and the stick more effective than just one or the other. And I think to some extent if I really want x I'm going to be scared that if I slack I won't get x, so it's natural to fear things (e.g. spending a life on a checkout, again without disrespect to those who do) that are a long way from x.

losing about 40 years of your life because the life expectancy of homeless people is about 30-40 years. If you want to live a shorter life, then carry on not revising and that means for GCSE too.

Working on the checkouts yourself is the best incentive to revise.

It's a grim, grim place in Sainsbury's working 9-6 Saturdays. We covered up the time with little bits of paper to try and make it go quicker, above the Enter button someone had scrawled 'abandon hope all ye who'.. and some of the customers treat you like complete idiots. When they want something they assume the best way to get it is to talk really slowly and patronisingly. The pay isn't bad for a sixteen year old when you don't have housing and food to worry about, but it wouldn't go anywhere if that was all you had.

I'd never want the disappointment I had in my first AS year, never.
Same. My AS grades were, quite frankly rubbish. I genuinely do not care what I get UMS wise, as long as i get what i need for Sheffield to take me.

I said that then, too. I was pointing out that while the majority of this thread is harmless, some posts would probably knock people's confidence/esteem a bit in that their 'Aim' was another person's 'Worst Outcome' or 'Last resort'. I don't think there's anything wrong with a bit of reverse psychology-esque motivation, I know most of this is for a laugh; I just think that while most of it's appropriate, a handful of it hasn't been.

London Met has got some good courses people! Nursing and LLB are well supported. I go to UCL so you would expect a level of snobbery, however I understand that not everyone can get the grades required and so they go to less intense unis. I mean I am struggling to hold onto my place as it is!

revision can lead to confusion and bewilderment too... ive revised for as long as i can remember and forced myself to be good at things that i hate ..then i couldnt abandon the grades which i was getting and so stupidly decided to go off to uni to study mentally challenging but pretentious crap which probably isnt gonna get me anywhere in life anyway...

dont let school suffocate you people
