Who's applied to Manchester?
I've put it down as my firm, so I've been wondering about accomodation.
I've been directed to this website http://www.accommodation.manchester.ac.uk/ so I started to fill out the online application form for accomodation.
But then my friend told me that for the first year of Uni, you're automatically put into the halls?
I'm confused haha can someone help?
Thanks in advance

Re: Who's applied to Manchester?Ah right, so me applying is basically just saying where I want to be? But if I don't apply, they just give me leftovers?(Original post by The Hedonist)
You're guaranteed accommodation, but you're not 'put into halls' - you still need to apply (you can have 3 preferences)
Do you know anyting about City Campus, Victoria Park and Fallowfield as well by any chance? I've heard Fallowfield can be loud but it's best for social life, but haven't heard much about the other places!
Thanks

Thank you very much(Original post by The Hedonist)
I applied to Hulme and Dalton Ellis (Victoria Park) and Allen Hall (Fallowfield). I don't know a great deal to be honest, you're better off asking current students!

Re: Who's applied to Manchester? If you don't apply then they'll assume that you've got somewhere else to live - so yes, apply! If you do apply then you will get somewhere, even if it isn't one of your preferences. And you should apply asap as accommodation is first come-first served.(Original post by Super Mario 64)

Re: Who's applied to Manchester?Check back through any emails or letters you've received directly from the university. I think I had my number before I firmed Manchester. It's a 7-8 digit number and may start with 'UID'. Usually it's either top right of letters/emails or by your name.(Original post by mariejulian)
ive firmed Manchester and want to apply for accommodation but it says i need a Manchester ID number to be able to, will this come to me via email to say they've acknowledged me firming then or should i already have it?? -
Re: Who's applied to Manchester?I lived in Hulme Hall & Burkhardt which is in Victoria Park for my first year. Don't be put off because it's in VP. It has a brilliant social life and it's really easy to get to Fallowfield, the City Centre and Deansgate Locks for nights out. It's also a lot closer to uni than fallow field, so if you have been out partying the night before uni, it's a lot easier to get to lectures on time(Original post by Super Mario 64)

I would definitely say it's the best of both worlds as it's a quieter area yet still has an amazing social life.
Fallowfield is really good for pubs and having a drink with friends, but it doesn't have that many clubs, most big nights out I have found take place in Deansgate locks or near Canal St area, these are around 20 minute walk or 10-15 mins on the bus whereas from Fallowfield it is around a half hour journey to get there. Saying that though, Fallowfield is a lot busier as students are more concentrated and there are a lot more halls and student houses, so there are a lot more students in Fallowfield whereas in Victoria Park, you see more 'normal' people and not just students
