Are there not electronic keys on campus as well??
Not unless they're changed the locks in the last year. Normal keys on campus. You get two keys, one that opens the front door to the flat/door to the floor you're on, and one that opens only your room.

Not that i've heard...ok, for some reason i assumed all the keys would be the same... have you ever heard of people having problems with their keys? eg electronic one not working or keys being lost

The rooms in manor park are generally newer than the rooms on campus, which have been there for a while now; the insides get changed and upgraded, but obviously there's not much benefit in changing the locks for every room on campus.

The electronic keys are fairly reliable, I've not heard of any stopping working. They're the standard magnetic keys you get in hotels, so obviously you can wipe them the same was as credit cards or anything, but it's pretty difficult to do, so not really worth worrying about. As for losing them, yeah people do, but no more so than people lose anything else. Although I did know a girl who lost her key within the first hour of moving in!

Agree with you entirely there, I'd be happier to see more band Cs or Ds, although I guess anything is better than nothing, as the people in the Fs will free up a few more rooms in the lower bands. Definitely could have been put to better use though from a student perspective. There's probably more going on behind the scenes though, as to why the uni would want more "premium" rooms, I'm sure they'll come in useful, and I'm sure they won't be empty!
    My guesses are:

Better off/well funded students (probably Masters/PhD)
For marketing purposes, as there isn't many

Snowdon is not an idiot, so he will have his reasons. I just think that per square metre the space could be put to better use...

Yeah I'd be leaning more towards marketing purposes, for any events the university hosts where they need somewhere nice to put people up.

Personally I'd rather see more student flats, but I'll have some faith (obviously opinions will differ on this) that the university had good reasoning to choose to make Band Fs instead of more C/D.

How do you find living at Manor Park?? is the 15 min walk annoying?
Also what band are you living in??
Manor park is generally a lovely area. In my first year i lived at the furthest point and it was really peaceful. The 15/20 min walk is brilliant, especially when its sunny. Frankly, it's the only exercise i get. I live in Band D, nothing better, have everything to yourself

From what you've heard and your own experiences, do most people get their first choice of accommodatiom??
I got my 2nd choice - Band C on campus, my 1st being ensuite on campus. So don't get your hopes too high about getting an ensuite on campus... However sharing isn't that bad depending on the court you get put in. (I'm in Stag Hill and only share with one other person).

My keys are crap. They jam constantly and it's a pig to unlock my room (I feel sort of sorry for the poor person who takes over my room in September...) :P Security have a spare set though so if you need let in/you've lost your keys then they'll let you in.

Any student nurses or paramedics? I applied for normal accommodation but a bit confused about what happens when we go on placements? Do we get to live in nursing accommodation or something?
Not too sure about Nursing placements because they're different to Dietetics, but if you get an NHS Bursary which covers your expenses and you end up having to live in/pay for accommodation on placement - therefore paying for 2 lots of accommodation then I'm pretty sure you get reimbursed on the cheaper one.

A slightly more electronic version of... drawing names from a hat.

I'll make you a bet that you'll get your 2nd choice though.

    Bet accepted

To be honest, I'm fine with everything they want to give me, but a shared room (I'm not the kind of silent student who reads and that's it, I talk a lot when studying xD)

Yeah I've never been keen on the shared room idea, everyone wants a bit of privacy when they need it!

You may get lucky and get the band D on campus though, but chances are it'll be D Off, or band C on .

I visited some band C rooms and they were pretty good do you know if all the buildings are mix sexed?

(I am sorry I feel like each of us is like bombarding you with those silly questions.. I suppose it's the excitement )

Unless you specifically applied for single sex, then you'll definitely be in mixed sex. Ha that's fine, I remember how excited I was before my first year. (Excited and scared!)

Well, I didn't neither see that option, so I hope I didn't tick it cos I don't feel like being in a single sexed building...

    What year are you doing?

You'd know about it if you had, it's not something you'd tick accidentally.

I'm on my placement year at the moment, will be going into my final (4th) year in September

It's under Special Requests if I remember correctly. There are a couple of options where you have to tick yes or no and one of them is about single sex areas. I think they're all automatically ticked no but you can always check back if you want to be sure.

    Heya,

I was just wondering what accommodation people would reccommend for Surrey University?? What Band room? On campus or Off campus? Single sex or mixed sex flats??

    Thanks x
Well I've lived in Battersea Court this year (band C)- loved it and wouldn't change it for any of the other bands! Anything higher than band C is too expensive in my mind, and anything lower is a bit small for me. Also, the only thing you need to think about is manor park is a bus ride away from campus, so it just makes things a little harder (but its not a problem for most people). I'd probably say mixed sex flats, but that's just because I worry what it would be like living with 13 other girls...

Genuinely had no idea manor park had electronic keys! Jealous... but yeah we just have normal keys on campus... it's not a problem or anything though!

Hope you get the accommodation you want!

    Hii

So with Band Cs.. How many people are there sharing how many showers/toilets?

Are the toilets like cubicle toilets?

Numbers vary from court to court. In Stag Hill it's a bit strange, and there's only two of you to each bathroom. In Battersea court it's 14 people to 3 or 4 toilets, and the same amount of showers, and in Cathedral court its 7 people to 2 toilets and 2 showers.

The toilets are (except for stag hill) always in different rooms to the showers, and generally they're in their own rooms, however sometimes the toilets are in cubicles like normal toilets.
