Couple of questions about student finance, help would be appreciated!
So I've just sent out my application to the SLC, fingers crossed I've done it all right. As far as home finance goes, we're a low income family, so if all goes well I should receive a government grant and a bursary from my uni.
My mum is self employed and my dad is the home keeper. Because the forms we send off/get are different, I used to self assessment tax credit to get our income figures, which I believe was correct. But if they ask for evidence, will this form be ok to send off, or do I need to find another?
Also, do they ask everyone for evidence, or do they just do random checks on say 1/3 people?
Thanks in advance for any help, please quote me so I can see any replies

Re: Couple of questions about student finance, help would be appreciated!
They will need to see proof of income.
I'm not sure what you mean by "self assessment tax credit". If it's your tax credits entitlement letter, then no it won't be good enough. If you mean your self assessment tax return, then yes, this is what they'll want to see

Re: Couple of questions about student finance, help would be appreciated! Thanks for your help! What's the difference between the two? This one came through the post abouuut 1 week ago, it says how many hours a week my mum spends working, how much she's earnt over the year, that my dad doesn't work and then says how much working tax and child tax credit we're entitled to. Is that the right one?(Original post by Shani)

If your mum is self employed she will have to fill in a tax return every year. It is this that they will want to see. I'm sure if you ask your mum she will know what her tax return is

Re: Couple of questions about student finance, help would be appreciated! You'd be surprised, she's awful at it and has been telling me that's what the form was. She said she's sent it off and I've got a copy of the version she sent off, but we haven't received anything back about it yet. :s(Original post by Shani)
