Re: cancer vacine developed in Tel Aviv ? well done to themThey did, they said it was published in Vaccine and gave a link to the article:(Original post by RollerBall)
I really wish any medicine related journalism was required to link the journal/clinical trial they are "quoting" from.

Re: cancer vaccine developed in Tel Aviv ? well done to themOh please. It makes me die a little inside when otherwise intelligent people fail to grasp the importance of evidence and lack the ability to subject sources that support their own prejudices to the same levels of scepticism as those that don't.(Original post by Jampolo)
LOL @ everyone here who thinks vaccines are a 'GOOD' thing... -
Re: cancer vaccine developed in Tel Aviv ? well done to themI don't quite know where you're going with this, but cancer treatment is very expensive.(Original post by Jampolo)

Re: cancer vaccine developed in Tel Aviv ? well done to them
Shame some people want to drive that place into the sea.
Maybe the ratio of 10:1 nobel price winners, and the hundreds of nobel laureates vs 10 from surrounding countries (not in the B******* peace prize I mean real ones like the sciences, economics and the arts) would have not existed of those surrounding countries had their wishes granted. -
Re: cancer vaccine developed in Tel Aviv ? well done to them
I wonder what the side effects are, since killing cancer cells in a test tube is fairly easy, the problem is finding something which selectively targets cancer cells. Given that the protein is expressed in 90% of cancers, something tells me there the vaccine may cause some major autoimmune response. Also "improvement" isn't very helpful, and in a tiny 10 people trial, it's nothing to get excited about.

Re: cancer vaccine developed in Tel Aviv ? well done to themYes indeed, however being a brilliantly creative country doesn't give you the right to act immorally, the Nazis created some amazing stuff and think of the level of scientific innovation created in Scotland and England at the same time the two countries were colonising the world. In many respects the permanent state of conflict favours Israeli innovation - think about how many countries specifically source things like Israeli made drones - Russia, China, India, the Americans, Turkey and so on. It is a hugely profitable industry in Israel, as are loads of security related things, the security at most huge events like the 2008 and 2012 Olympics is carried out using Israeli security tech.(Original post by prog2djent)

Re: cancer vaccine developed in Tel Aviv ? well done to them
Personally I don't think there will ever be a definite cure for cancer. Whenever a cancer patient is cured it is very situational. 10 patients?! we need more trials.
Look at acne, they haven't even developed a cure for this because of varying skin types/ different immune defence levels + a whole boat load of other factors. Some peoples acne doesn't even react to accutane and that is last resort. I reckon the same thing applies to cancer, except cancer is even more vague because it is inside/outside the body and there are just far to many factors to consider about each individual patient, moreso than an acne sufferer.
This is just my baseless theory

Re: cancer vaccine developed in Tel Aviv ? well done to themComparing the whole of Israel to Nazi germany .... haven't heard that before.(Original post by Cyanohydrin)

Lets see, I don't, and no person with a fair conscience, that know both sides of the story, would support Israel's foreign policy from its 20th century re-birth.
Most Israeli's don't, in-fact, support their foreign policy to the extent that it is carried out, though, understandably, they (and most people should) should support Israel's right to defense, but not aggression.
Aside from their Foreign policy, Israel is one of the freest and most tolerant places to live ... even by western standards, compared to the surrounding countries, even the one's Israel hasn't tampered with, well ... there is no comparison.
You can't compare Israel to Nazi Germany, has Germany was a crap place to live, and was completely totalitarian. Freedom of speech, religion, same-sex, gender and all round equality standards are on a par with us, and even Muslims have more rights in Israel than they do in surrounding countries.
And even then, Israel's foreign policy compared to nazi germany, is, lets say, like comparing 5 dogs vs 5 cats, and 10 dogs vs 1 cat.
And "events like the 2008 and 2012 Olympics is carried out using Israeli security tech" really says it all, Israel's surrounding countries leaders, and their immediate populations would have Israel destroyed if they could, regardless of all their disporportional advancement in, well anything, compared to the population size.Last edited by prog2djent; 10-04-2012 at 15:38. -
Re: cancer vacine developed in Tel Aviv ? well done to themIt would be such a bitch to get lung cancer and then realise the cancer vaccines don't work.(Original post by Obfuscator)
This is great, great news, if it is indeed ~90% effective! We should be cautious before we all spark up the celebratory cigars, though. I'd be interested to see the results of the wider clinical studies.
*badum dum scht!*
Spoiler:Show
Yes cancer is serious. I was not making a joke out of cancer btw.......

Re: cancer vaccine developed in Tel Aviv ? well done to themExactly that's why we need to keep them in America and Europe so they do research for us.(Original post by prog2djent)

I was just kidding, but nevertheless being productive doesn't give them the right to take land belonging to others. -
Re: cancer vaccine developed in Tel Aviv ? well done to themThey manage it whilst they have to constantly defend the country from all sides and always have the 'support' from the international media. Mann imagine what they could do without all that trouble. Perhaps the cure for cancer would have already been developed(Original post by Cyanohydrin)
Israel is always at the forefront of medical innovation - they are a very clever people and have produced some amazing stuff for such a small country.
