Re: Has anyone tried revising using PowerPoint?I have tried, but I don't find it very effective to be honest.
. While making them, I waste too much time just changing the background colours, adding animations etc, and you can't really put many revision notes on them unless you make them really long.

Re: Has anyone tried revising using PowerPoint?
I don't find them effective, you have to be at a computer all the time to revise off them. It's just easier to have a mindmap and add to that tbh. A mindmap can cover everything, and if you remember them well, use them in exams. The most effective way to revise for me.

Re: Has anyone tried revising using PowerPoint?
for me it does help because i:
1) write brief notes
2) revise only what i need to
3) always carry them with me wherever i go
it really helps and im predicted to get a clean run of a* in all my subjects (economics, history, french, maths, english, science and r.s)
p.s make sure you print them out as slides -
Re: Has anyone tried revising using PowerPoint?
I find them pretty useful myself, yes, it depends on the person like most things.
However, I don't use ones I have made; I use ones others have made, as their is none of the messing with colours, animations etc. I have made a few PPT's for others to use before though, mainly for school and I find them a great tool. -
Re: Has anyone tried revising using PowerPoint?E.g. by typing up your notes, showing presentations to others, finding pictures to support what you are revising, using colours/ animations if you're a visual learner etc.(Original post by Dalek1099)
How can PowerPoint help you revise?

Re: Has anyone tried revising using PowerPoint?
I really like this PowerPoint method, I feel as though the use of colours, animations etc would make it feel less daunting to revise and I'm a visual learner. I used flashcards and ended up with a massive pile that really turns me off revision so I'm intending to give this a go in a couple of days. I've been on the computer quite frequently so I'll just read through when I'm a bit bored or something.

Re: Has anyone tried revising using PowerPoint?
I've done the PowerPoint method and have tried presenting my biology revision to my brother and ended up getting 93% in a test about Ecology in Year 10, much higher than everyone else. ;p
Or you could print off the slides and revise from them. My friend does that and I sometimes do that - it's equally as effective. -

Re: Has anyone tried revising using PowerPoint?Hmm.. religious studies and English literature. No point in doing science or maths because of the amount of calculations involved, it'll just get confusing.(Original post by bobbricks)

Re: Has anyone tried revising using PowerPoint?I find it useful to mix up your revision techniques. On the one hand, it takes a decent amount of time to make a powerpoint but then again you can really customize it and it is a good way to test yourself (use custom animation).(Original post by bobbricks)
Have you found it to be effective?
I tend to use them for the few subjects which are quite easy to put into the powerpoint format- rs judaism, biology, chemistry, history... -
Re: Has anyone tried revising using PowerPoint?
Personally it is not that effective of a method for my revision because I think to help me grasp something I need to physically write it in front of me...
Doing mindmaps, timelines and tables (but strangely not notes
) are what I use to effectively revise my material for the majority of my topics

Re: Has anyone tried revising using PowerPoint?
I use them to make notes to bring with me to my exam for last minute revision. It's really helpful because printing out sheets with the key notes is so much easier than reading over a book or a mindmap packed tight with tons of stuff. They're great for subjects like RS where you need to learn keywords.
Other than that, I would suggest using other methods too before your exam. Reading off a PowerPoint isn't always effective and it's boring!
If you're using PowerPoint, I'd say make it yourself and in your own words. Don't use animation or colour either because that is just distracting. Also, don't get them off the Internet because they're generally basic and may have wrong information. You could also try duplicating a slide, cutting out some words from the new slide, trying to remember them to help you learn and then using the slide you duplicated it from to check your answers.
On the other hand, it depends on how you are. Some people learn better with mindmaps, some better with tables, some better with just writing notes. Try it and see how it goes for you and then if not, try something else.
