Re: Aintree 2012I put twenty on sunny hill boy at 16-1 so what would I win?(Original post by DotComBoom)
You get some money back if it comes 2, 3 or 4th whilst you get the full price back if it wins.
I had Cappa Bleu each way at 16/1, so for every pound I bet I think I'm going to get 4 pounds back.
thanks a lot. -
Re: Aintree 2012
Only an hour ago Synchronized was tipped to win, and now he's been put down. Not nice to hear.
This is the first time i've ever really payed any attention to the grand national, I had £5 on Cappa Bleu. Whilst it was sort of exciting for a few minutes, I doubt i'll ever really get into it.
Now i'm just £5 down and sad about the horses that died! -

20 times 16, plus your original 20, so 340
How can people not do this math

Re: Aintree 2012
Nah, that'd be if he bet 20 on his horse to win, and won it. He went eachway so his £20 has basically been split into £10 on him winning, and £10 on his horse placing in the top 4 or 5.
For the place bets the bookies deduct from your winnings for the number of places that will win you something, which today would be either 4 or 5 I think, and I think they deduct 1/4 or 1/5 for each place.
If that makes sense, haha. I'm relatively new to it as well!Last edited by Cll_ws; 14-04-2012 at 17:35. -

Re: Aintree 2012Ah he done each way, fair enough thats 80 then(Original post by SilentIdea)
That race horse didn't win though. -
Re: Aintree 2012
I came second with Sunny Hill Boy! Can't believe how close it was!
£20 total? If it was each way then you basically bet £10. As it came second you get a quarter of the odds. SO you should get £50 (£40 winnings plus your original bet). if you placed £20 each way (i.e. £40 then you would get £100 back).(Original post by ugk4life)

Like saying they enjoy the race - because being whipped and forced to jump over high, dangerous fences is just like nature intended, isn't it?
I agree with you to some extent, i'm not really a fan of horse racing either.
But just for the record, if the fences were any lower it'd mean the horses were going faster and landing harder, no doubt resulting in many more fatalities.
