WJEC English Literature A2 Exam 20th June 2012
Hi guys,
I haven't seen a thread for this exam yet, so here's one to discuss!!
I'm taking LT4 this summer, I've been studying the poems by William Blake and the plays The Tempest and Dr Faustus.
Any tips how to tackle the essay on the unseen poetry?
Discuss or ask any questions if you want.
Good Luck

Re: WJEC English Literature A2 Exam 20th June 2012
Hi,
this is more of a revision tip, so not sure if it will help, but I've been printing off copies of the 'poem of the week' http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/series/poemoftheweek and giving myself 10 minutes to annotate them. Just good practice I think.
In terms of answering the question, I tend to find 3 points related to the question, so lets say the question was about love, I would maybe isolate 3 types of love, for example relationship type love-positive and negative aspects of (so My Pretty Rose Tree), love between child and parent (infant joy) and universal love ( The Clod and the Pebble), then I would look at the unseen poem and see if there are 3 points that I can use to either agree with the point from Blake's essay, or that contrast it. If the ideas aren't similar, then you can always use techniques, such as use of metaphor etc! If it's reasurring, I've been getting between b's and a*'s in essays so far, so hopefully I'm not far off with my technique for the essay,
hope this helps,
good luck -
Re: WJEC English Literature A2 Exam 20th June 2012
I'm studying King Lear/Oedipus and The Wife of Bath. I'm so terrified of this exam!

I can hardly write a proper essay for the unseen poetry question, even using all my notes and the text! I think I'd prefer to do Blake, because at least they're separate poems and easier to remember.
I will be indebted to anyone who can offer advice for this exam.

We've done a timed essay before the hols, and tomorrow we're probably going to get it back, and then I can really see how badly I've done :s
Have you started compling notes yet?

Re: WJEC English Literature A2 Exam 20th June 2012
Nice to see a thread for the few lonely WJEC people
.
I'm doing The Wife of Bath, and the Tempest with Dr Faustus.
I must admit I'm quite unsure how to revise for the unseen poetry with Chaucer, but I think Tempest and Faustus shouldn't be too bad.
Pretty much crapping myself at the prospect of a closed text exam really to be honest.

Re: WJEC English Literature A2 Exam 20th June 2012
I'm doing the exam on The Wife of Bath and Lear with Oedipus Rex. I'm so worried about memorising quotes! I write them on little note cards with a short analysis on the back and this kinda works. I wish I started to learn them right from the begining though :/

Re: WJEC English Literature A2 Exam 20th June 2012I must admit I haven't really started revising English Lit yet, as it's my penultimate exam. I reckon Tempest and Faustus will be a walk in the park compared with Wife of Bath; I'm really going to have to dig in hard to get the A I need!(Original post by Princess Kawaii)

Re: WJEC English Literature A2 Exam 20th June 2012
I find if I record myself saying the poems and listen to it, even absent mindedly, it sinks in and you find yourself knowing quotes without even realising it. We've been told to try and memorise 10 poems that we can apply to lots of themes and we comfortable using. I have a rubbish memory, but if you do essay practice etc then I find that you can kind of remember stuff without sitting and trying to learn it deliberately.

Re: WJEC English Literature A2 Exam 20th June 2012thats really annoying, although in a way it means that you're more or less restricted to certain themes? whereas Blake, almost anything could come up! There are short readings of the poem on youtube, but they aren't great! I would just focus on sections then that are easy to analyse(Original post by Dusty12)
You're so lucky doing Blake! The Wife of Bath is like one massive poem, and it's hard to record it because it's so different to pronounce. Plus ALL the WJEC examples are on Blake.

Just wondering if any of you could tell me if this is grammatically correct:
'Participating in this programme will allow me to appreciatively benefit from this opportunity. '
(its a language course in spanish im applying for -application in English
) or how it would be re-worded
thanks in advance
