Re: HELP ! English Gcse (Edexcel)
Write a lot about little, not a little about a lot. Go into a lot of detail about certain points, and make sure that you evaluate each point as much as is possible. Finally, use PEEL rather than PEE; Point. Evidence. Explanation. Link. For the linking part, link different poems together if the question is on comparison.

Re: HELP ! English Gcse (Edexcel)PEEL works, but for my English GCSEs last year something that I found simpler was Point. Evidence. Analyse.(Original post by mevidek)

I suppose it adds link and explanation together, but it reminded me that I have to structure how I'd structure an analysis - a beginning, middle and conclusion. Our exam breakdown by a chief examiner stated that people who structured the analysis they did well usually got far higher marks because they could convey their point to the examiner who could then award marks.
Like mevidek said, you have to link it to the other poems if you are to compare. -

Using PEEL is a great method, and is very useful, it also shows good analytically skills and certainly goes down well with the examiners.
Always ensure that you are constructive, explain your points; don't go off on a tangent though, it won't look good. Always stick to the point.
Try to make very little grammatical/spelling mistakes, they really don't look good, especially on an English examination.
Proof read. Ensue that you read twice! But don't only do it at the end of the exam; but don't dwell on it either. Try and spend 5 minutes at the end of each question, reading over it and correctly and small mistakes, ensure it is appealing to the examiner, it will make you look better in his eyes! -

Re: HELP ! English Gcse (Edexcel)
Without going through the absolute mountain of advice one can give on how to write a good English essay, I will just give you one little tip: DO NOT CONFUSE BRACKETS AND PARENTHESES! This is especially important for English Language as the text in parenthesis is usually quite significant and the parentheses will indicate something specific that you should comment on.
And just for the record: Brackets are these [], Parentheses are these (). It's also worth remembering the difference between the two: generally speaking, brackets are used to indicate missing words while parentheses are usually used for qualification of some kind.Last edited by Mod Calm; 12-04-2012 at 09:32.
