And where do we get the energy from to make the hydrogen...
You can't store raw energy unless you utilise huge, high-inertia flywheels, which are totally impractical. Hydrogen allows us to use the energy to create a storage medium, which can then be tapped at a later date to recover a percentage of that original energy. -
