How far would you commute to uni?
I know probably most people would want to stay in student accomodation next to the uni but what do you think is the maximum distance to travel to uni from home? By car or train? 20mins? 30? 50?

Why do they do that? Is it because they dont want to live in student accommodation?

If i went to birmingham it'd be 35ish mins in a car and 80ish by bus. though saving 5 grand a year would probably be worth it.

Ideally no more than 20-25 minutes walk.

Takes me an hour and a half. If it was my first time at uni I would have moved there but it's my second and I'd already got a flat and all that jazz, so I commute! It's not too bad really, I quite like the train journey, and I wouldn't have wanted to live in halls again.

If I went to university in london I'd probably go for the 35 mins in the train to Kings Cross and then however long it takes on the tube.

I know a guy who commuted from Sandwich to London. It was doable because of the new high speed line though.

Takes my brother 1.5 hours by train to get to Queen Mary... It would take me 3 hours by train, if I were to go to Brunel.

Our parents don't want us to live on campus.

When I was at aston uni I lived at home with my mum and dad about 10 miles away.

It took 5 mins to get from my house to the train station by car, 20 mins on the train, 5 mins to walk from the station to uni. I wouldn't like to do anything more that that.

I'm currently travelling between Sheffield and Huddersfield by train. There is one every hour and it usually takes between 1hr to 1hr:15mins. Because of my timetable I usually miss the train home by 5 mins, so I have to wait an hour. So officially it takes 2 hours (or there abouts) to and from uni but the extra hour waited makes it 3

It's annoying sometimes because the last train is something like 10pm but generally the travelling is pretty decent. I can relax on the train listening to music or catch up on reading - plus it's ALOT cheaper than actually living there

It takes me 55 minutes at the moment (35min walking 20min train) and its tolerable. Towards 2 hours would begin to suck a bit.

It depends how u commute. Sometimes (not in every case), taking the train is alottttt quicker. I live in London and my uni is London so it is better for me to commute rather than spend loads of £££ on accommodation. I can commute via train or bus, by train it takes just under an hour but by bus it can take up to 2 hours sometimes. But if I was in a uni far away, I would defo stay on campus. I think it also depends on your financial situation as well :yep:

I would travel up to 1 hour... think of the money you could save from not being in student accomodation!

But then, is it the real university experience?

This is very similar to what i was thinking of doing! going to sheffield uni from where i live is.40 mins by car but i dont know about train! Do you feel you miss out on socialising and nightlife or are you not the partying type? How about making friends?
